HOGS:
Hey Norris , If you have access to machine gear why don`t ya put your head in gear and think about making a really cool catch can for them damn breather hoses, complete with filter and drain hose etc. I`ll take one from ya and I`m sure others wd. HAs too be COOL though..Billet alum. and I`ll take the first one and try it out for ya and I won`t charge ya for testing it ... LoL

Hogs:
Hey Norris ,

Why not start a thread and get some input on it, with regards to location, mounting brackets , filter, material etc. the whole nine yards

Ara:
Norris, I have a suggestion for that catch can. Make the barrel of it out of clear PVC. That way you would be able to monitor the goo in the can visually.

We may be able to put one together with stuff
right off the shelf @ home depot.

If we need to make a nice bling bling polished
billet can or box, I'll be glad to make it.

Ok, so let's get started.

don't know if the whole thing should be clear. maybe just have a little window for viewing. something like on quarts of oil.

I don't think I would want to look at that spooge and I sure wouldn't want another rider to see it use it as a tool to not like Buells.

Of interest, I just take a minute at the end of a ride to check the oil level and drain the catch can. Is routine now, just like checking the tires, lights and fasteners before a ride.

Just an opinion. YMMV

Hey Norris ,

Its a start But thought more would have joined in by now anyways: Location, Fit, Construction,Materials, then looks I think wd. be in order:

Location is a killer Wow ever just sit down and Look for a place to mount something ,One really has to look hard , Anyways This and all is just my ideal So all you Don`t jump on ME LoL REad the whole " nine Yards " Before passing judgement..

Location:= Behind left foot heel guard bracket.

Fit:= unit itself to fit on the inside of that perhaps mounted in two of the vertical small holes (tight area), so unit has to be small diameter and longer..

Construction:= Hmmm Interesting , How about say picture this now, unit about total length = 4 inches starting from the bottom up three inches about 1.25 inches in diameter hollow in the middle, then the last inch on top flared out about 2.5 inches in diameter . On the bottom center tap a 1/8 pipe female thread, then install a ( T ) fitting something like on the bottom of a air compressor for draining the water at the end of the day with a hose follow me,??? This is where you can empty the unit after a few days or whenever...

The top inch flares out to the 2.5 inches ( Milled Out ) to give room to install a cap with three 1/8 pipe female threads, ( cap) So one can screw in three male 1/8 pipe male nipples to install two of the 3/8 inch hoses coming down from the head breathers and one of the male nipples to attach a small k&n type filter so the whole unit can breath...Of course the inside of the 2.5 inch area is opened up to meet with the hollow of the 3 inches going down the drain area... PLm. I see Norris is the top inch & 2.5 inches in diameter wd. have to be milled out on a miller and a cap perhaps mounted with screws etc..to button this all up thats the killer...

Materials:= How about Billet alum, Stainless Steel, plastics, or a combination of ...

Cost should not be BAD once you jig it or whatever??What do ya all think... Add or Subtract anything you like ... LoL

My old 1983 Honda Ascot VT500FT (watercooled V-twin) has something like this that works really well.

It has a catch "box" (molded plastic) located under the air box (which is under the seat). Breather hoses from the top of the valve covers go down to the catch box. The top of the catch box has port into the bottom of the air box to provide "breathing" for the engine crankcase. A hose from the catch box goes back to near the end of the swing arm. It has a plastic plug with clamp in the end (something like the oil drain for the reservoir on a tube frame Buell). Every time you change the oil, you pull the plug and let the gunk drain out. It works really well. No blow by, no mess on the engine, and holds enough gunk for ~7500 miles between changes (if you want to go that far).

So, make something with ample capacity so it doesn't have to be drained between oil changes. Put it somewhere out of the way, with an easily accessible drain line. Vent it back to the engine air cleaner, so you get positive crankcase ventilation which helps keep the oil clean (this also avoids having a breather filter to keep clean).

For what it's worth....

Someone said on the race buells etc, That if you make the hoses run back and are long enough then you will really not get very much oil or anything at all thats what they found with their units , I forget who said that , wasn`t that long ago on here...I wdn`t want to run it back to the air cleaner though myself..

Would it be better to make a catch can, or make a new
style billet filter lid, so you could use the stock vent tube holes.
I plan on making a billet cover for my bike, since everyone ones convinced me the stock ram air is no good, but I don't know if I can make them cost effective enough to sale, because of the nipple.
Would everybody be willing to drill the bottom cover,
and would it be worth a 100 bucks to you.

Hogs

I think your location would be good.
I think a billet box would be better.
By the time everything is said and done
that little box will cost about $75.00
Remember, we are talking about machining
it out of a solid block of aluminum, with
all the bling bling.

I'd need to make about ten, to
be able to sale them @ that price.

Hey Norris ,

A box or rectangle wd. be ok maybe easier to mount that as well, not sure what ya mean about the filter lid as I for one wd. not want to run them hoses up where they are now and out the top of the lid if thats what you mean , I rather plug them two holes and have the hoses go down to the box , also one might be able instead of having two 3/8 hoses going down why could we not just increase the two hoses around where they come out of the heads and ( T ) them there say to one hose say a 1/2 inch or 5/8 hose and just run one hose down the box , I don`t see why that wdn`t work as well ???

Hey Norris,

If you make this and it looks Factory and its a complete bolt on kit, with all parts and is as easy as 1,2,3 to install I don`t think you will have a plm. to sell 10 of em, But it has to look cool and all edges etc.etc finished off like something you wd. expect to see factory made, don`t forget the little k&n filter you need as well.. And I`ll test one for ya at no cost LoL just joking.. :-))

city. Hog's I'll send it to ya for testing.
you can test it as long as you like.
You'll get it in 3 to 4 weeks plus any other
delays you have in Canada.

norris.i think will all the climatic differences we have over the world you need more testing input from differing weather conditions...as the good old uk is renowned for its wet damp conditions i think that to be totally sure your product works you should have a unit tested here too....i wonder who could do that?....lol

Hey Norris,
Polished or Machined your call to keep the price down for all, where its located I don`t think it really matters., When you say " box " do you mean a rectangle or as don`t want it to close to the swing arm action LoL I know we are in GooD Hands with YoU...How will you say put the two mounting boss on it to mount to the heel guard? Will there be a boss that is tapped and female threaded to bolt the two bolts and washers through two of them holes in the heel guards to mount it?? Are you going to go with the one hose or two 3/8 hose ideal etc.etc and small filter etc., the bottom T fitting will not need a hose one can easy just put a small rag or cup under to drain as I don`t think there will be much anyways With regards to shipping to Canada No plms. Just ship as a used motorcycle part no delays will only take a week to get here if that , Ship by USPS air parcel post only ( Not UPS ) They SuXXXXXXXXX LoL

HEy Norris,

Excellent Ideal on the Cad drawing first, that way when you get orders for hundreds of these at a time you will be all ready for the orders...( Good maybe we can make changes before your Production if needed be )
LoL
I`m really surprised that these are yet not out there, Just took the air filter Screaming Eagle off my sons flhtcui/ road king custom and theres the oil seeping out off there as well, I`m sure the guys with the Hd`s would like to have something there as well to get rid of recycling that mess into the intake system...

Recommendation: TWO inlets for the pair of breather hoses, not one so that the hoses have to be teed together. That represents a 50% loss of breather volumetric capacity.

Ara, Not sure IF we Use a Larger size hose that it wd. be a plm., I understand you concern as two hoses was My original ideal as well, Hmm what about two hoses ( 3/8 ) coming down to the box and then a T ( 3/8 by 1/2 inch )into one larger hose for the inlet say a 1/2 female pipe thread ( just for the ease of making this unit ) with a 1/2 inch male nipple I wd. think that wd. still be big enough and perhaps even still on the side of overkill. Anyways just a thought keep the ideals coming... :-))))

Hey Norris,

Not BAd , But yours can be Finer LoL
I think I like the ideal of two hoses entering also having them going straight in from the top and not a 90 deg. angle as that one, since the hoses wd. be coming down towards the box anyways.. and if you can have the two boss mounts designed into the block it wd. be more solid mounting versus a bracket of sort...two mounting points in my mind wd. be more solid than just a one bolt mounting point off a bracket.. 2 --- 3/8 hose inlets and 1 --- 1/2 inch filter outlet ( pipe thread of course ) For that mater we could run a small piece of 1/2 inch hose up and have the filter up away from the box say 6 or 8 inchs up providing a larger filter area and away from the top for you to have more room for the inlets etc. etc..Just a few more ideals to play with..I know on the catch can we had for the Top fuel Harley we used to run we never had a filter on it at all but then again it was just for a short blast down the track..

Ok, I'll continue then.
I think I can make something that will
add to the look of the bike, not take
away from it.

I'll keep ya posted.
