Just wanted to say Hi to the group. Have been lurking for a while. This is one great site. I bought my used xb9s from Ray Price HD in Raleigh,NC around six weeks ago with 2150 miles at a fair price. After two tanks of fresh gas, it started to run flawlessly... the bike must had sitting for several months. All it needed was to be ridden. They installed a new battery, and tires. Sorry to say, they installed worn out dunlops with new dunlops, but it does buy me some time. My only complaint about the bike so far is the speedo sensor. It crapped out at around 2500 miles when I had it out for a long ride with u4eh and rubberdown. After the first rest stop, my bike would not refire. u4eh and Pete found that the ignition fuse had unseated itself. Jim got a good contact again and all has been well since. I saw one post where the speedo failure blew a ignition fuse...makes me really nervous. Other than those problems I will learn to love this bike, heck , I love it already, just need to find the sweet spots and more miles. Old dogs can learn new tricks. Thank's Mike,Pete, And Jim. glad your ok. wish I could have made it. Mike S

I still think that speedo sensor failure may be because people fire the bike up while the needles are sweeping up and down at power-up....

I saw one post where the speedo failure blew a ignition fuse...makes me really nervous.

That was me!
Roadside fix is unplug speedo sensor and replace fuse with one of the 2 spares in the fuse block. Ride away.

Welcome Twig,

I also bought a used 03 and have been loving it. The speedo I lost twice... Not a show stopper, maybe a bit annoying at best. Hasn't soured the experience at all. Very reliable bike. It has 14K on it now.

Do a search on here. There is a permanent fix for the sensor, you rewire it to a 5 volt power wire instead of the 12 volt wire.

Hey Mike, finally made it to the board. Welcome. Glad to hear the bike is running better for you. I wish you could have made that trip also, loads of fun, even considering what happened, like i always say-There is a bright side to everything! Look forward to meeting up and riding some more. Gonna try to get the C-3 crowd down this way soon. Glad to see you on board. Jim R.
