Cut down on the intake noise.

Tunes the incoming air charge for better low-end grunt at the expense of high-end breathability?

Hi,

Now I'm confused

Is it to cut down the noise or get better low-end ?

What kind of noise is the intake noise do : low or high pitch sound ?

Thanks

Both. Air induction noise is amplified without the snorkel. It would be a low-pitch sound. When I removed the snorkel on my XB9R, my seat-of-the-pants dyno told me that I lost some low-end grunt, without any appreciable gain on the top-end. Of course, I have a totally stock setup. YMMV.

On the tube-frame models the snorkel was for noise attenuation alone. I was told by a factory trained mechanic that the bike has to make two passes by the EPA microphone in order to pass the noise test, one pass in each direction. It's no coincidence on the tube-frame models that the exhaust points out the left side and the intake is on the right. It's so that the mic doesn't pick up intake honk and exhaust noise on the same pass. The snorkel controls the volume of the intake noise.

Mine is out. I also changed over to the 12 inner airbox cover, Pro air filter & spark plugs. Part No.s in my profile.

You don't loose anything. It smooths out the midrange and the engine feels less like it's lugging when pulling out from a standstill. (no, it never did "lug" - it's just the best way I can describe how it feels).

A little louder just equals prouder.

On my S3 the sound (song) of intake honk is really wonderful. I highly recommend the removal of the snorkel.
