I think all this XB hype is 'smoke.' I think I'm waiting to see the the next generation. What do you think a 'race kit' will do for the XB?...buy time and beta test? Consumate planners at work, count on it.

Once the XB has been loosed upon the streets, gaze into hills and valleys for newprotos straffing desert canyon twisties.

Personally, I like these Buell bikes.

Neil G.: My bad... composition. I didn't mean to imply that IL4's are not reliable, just that I would rather have a bigger V2 that is also reliable (as opposed to a super hot rodded smaller V2 that might lack in that respect).

Aaron: I think a lot of us want what Buell offers in every aspect except with more power. There just is no other mark that compares to the Buell motorcycle as artform on wheels. It sounds to me like an XB12R fits the bill quite nicely.

80FT-LB/120BHP Power-wise, that is ALL the bike I would EVER want.

Or the XBT9R, the "T" designating "Turbo".

Can you imagine an XBT12R?! Mr. Hayabusa, watch your arse! LSR... better get Mr. Nallin some fancy new leathers!

'Race Kit'

I have this problem of paying for stuff (intakes, exhausts, ECUs, etc) knowing that they're going to be tossed after I run the top end in gently.

So, our $10K bike becomes an $11K or $12K bike. Interesting...

José: I'm surprised you'd even TRY to bait me with that. I ain't takin the bait.

And the answer to your EPA question... heck yes, why couldn't they?

Well, this has been fun reading, but I have a serious, but perhaps ridiculous question. Is is possible that a "for offroad use only" Buell Race Kit is in our future, with DOHC four valve heads? Does it look possible that a chain could run up and down those wide push rod covers? If that could come true, who would need or want more power? My 86 GIXer was a stone axe with its oil and air cooled 750 engine, but it moved along rather nicely.
Just dreaming . . .

The "race kit" tested at Daytona netted 90 rwhp. Basically a race ecm, race header and muffler.

In one word that I already used, PACKAGING!

The size of the airbox and muffler required for a 1600 cc engine is not easy to hide. You can see how Yamaha did it.

A turbo XB9R? Just say no!

How do you know I was referring to you? When did I mention your name?

Uh....

Neil, with so much disdain for the concept behind Buells, why do you own one?

Ok...I'll keep my opinions to myself. Your reading so much into what I'm say (and others that you choose not to single out) that I'm not say, and not seeing what I am saying. I return y'all to bliss.

So racing success seems to be the holy grail. If that's true, Ducati is the clear model of success. What does Ducati offer in the price range of the Firebolt? The 750 Supersport. How does the 759 Supersport compare to the Firebolt?
61 Horsepower, over 400 pounds dry 55 inch wheelbase.

Oops, sorry.

Tell you what, I may have gone a little too far with that diatribe. It's a semi-free country, if a person wants to demand that company X makes the product he wants and markets it in a way that makes sense to him, he has a right to do so. Probably won't get anywhere, but he has a right to demand all he wants.

Personally, I'll just buy from whoever makes the product I want. Life's just too short to get spun up over having a certain name on the tank. But whatever floats your boat.

Anonymous has a point...

The Air Cooling on the VTwins is largely accidental (yeah, I know the XB has greater control over this). There's no regulation. Just hang a couple of finned jugs and heads around some airflow and hope all is well.

A/C aircraft engines - that don't even have the type of specific output of our motors - have baffling and cowling to help regulate temps. On some lesser planes, you're actually advised not to pull BACK hard on the power lest you cause a shock cooling induced crack someplace kinda important - like the heads.

The more power you squeeze out of an A/C motor, it would seem like you'd increase those temp swings quite a bit.

Turbos are not unreliable. However, high-ish output A/C motors tend to be more unreliable than equally high output W/C motors. The turbo would SEEM to add to power, resulting in more heat, therefore taking away from reliability.

Now, none of this would stop me from trying to turbo the Blast! You can stop laughing now. Seriously. Look, I'm not kidding around! Hey, STOP!

(stomps out of room bawling his eyes out)
