So what does everyone think about this break-in period? How imperative is it that you follow this ridiculous regimen of not surpassing the 3K RPM mark on the tach for 500 miles!? This is about as difficult to do as when your favorite lady tells you to ahhh...ehem...ummm delay the moment shall we say(if you guys know what I mean). Is it really bad for the engine if you go over the prescribed limits? |

Redtail-My sales guy told me to drive the bike like I normally would, but not to exceed 4000rpm for 500miles or so.I'm told that luggin'a gear(too low an rpm)is worse than too high.I just finished my first 500mi.this week-end,and all is well.Oh,I changed the oils(motor and primary)at 200miles just because.Good luck! |

I've ridden three XB12's; one carefully run-in (mine) the other two thrashed to blazes from day one (demos). Mine is sweet as a nut and performance is creamy smooth. The others vibrated like a road drill, stumbled everywhere except WFO and generally ran like sh*t but were actually faster if you ignored the mechanicals. Longevity or performance ? Your call |
