OK, What about this?

Dealer says I need to change ECM to race ECM when changing to aftermarket pipe. Is this really necessary or is this just another ploy to get more money out of me? I'm a total newbie to Buells so I need guidance. Thanks all.

Some pipes seem to work better with the Race ECM, Some are just fine with the stock ECM. I've found that as a general rule... The more open the design of the pipe, the more useful a race ECM becomes.

i was told that it was ok to just get the exhaust, but if you plan on getting the ecm anyways, you should just get it all at the same time...don't forget to get the filter to go with it...that is very important for the ecm and the bike to work correctly together..

Redtail, be prepared for a rough, swinging idle on just about every cold start-up. At least that's what I'm dealing with these days. After it warms up, it runs like a raped ape!

LOL!!! What an analogy Rmp. Raped ape huh? LOL!
Well, I'll keep that in mind. Well after much deliberation I've settled on a Jardine for my XB12. I would have loved a D&D but can't afford that right now. That being said, anyone out there running a Jardine? Without the race ECM that is and how do you/don't like it?

The 12 handles aftermarket pipes just fine with out using the race ECM. Just leave the valve controller in place and hooked to the ECM, and simply unhook the cable from the controller to the exhaust. If the Jardine runs at all like my Vance and Hines did, you will be VERY happy.

Running the Jardine RT.1 with a K&N on the stock ECM, but have since added the TFI.
Runs pretty darn good, nice and throaty..

Had a full of guys pull up next to me at a set of lights, all hanging out the window, made the comment that it's the best darn bike they have ever heard.

Ha.. Tell me something I don't know...
That's why I ride a BUELL...
