Awhile back I read about someone having a hard starting problem, then oh no, I started having that problem too! 24K miles on my '03 XB9R, first I checked the plugs. While pulling the rear cyl. wire, the connector separated from the wire and stayed on the plug. Removed and recrimped the connector to the wire, replaced the plugs and darn, still had the problem, but worse. Then I remembered that at the 10K service, the same problem occurred with the rear cyl. wire, so I guessed it was bad enough to cause the problem, so I ordered new wires. Received the new and improved '05 wires and installed them. Went for a ride and darn it, the problem was still there! This time, I found the spark plug connector on the rear wire was so tight, I hadn't actually slipped it over the spark plug tip when I had put it "on", the boot was all that was holding it in place! Fixed this by sliding the boot up the wire (aided by some silicone grease), using a long screwdriver to poke the connector onto the spark plug, then slid the boot down again. Problem solved. Serviceability access sure sucks for doing simple stuff like this, nothing like unintended consequences to complicate things.... |
