I am thinking about getting rid of my CBR 600 F4i and getting a XB9R. I have a couple of question though. The first is how much do you think I could get a new one for? How comparible do you think insurance will be? Should I trade the honda or sell it out right? I really like the firebolts, I am just trying to figure out what I should do.

I bought my 04 12R for 7400.00
It was a repo, it only had 2800 miles
on it. I've seen some good deals on
demo bikes. Maybe Daves has access to
a demo.

Just sold a 04 Factory demo bike with 5 miles on it for 7100.00
I also had 2 12S demos but they are gone too.

First I think we are going to go to the local buell dealer and see what they say. If that doesn't go good we might have to try and work out a deal.

Insurance is a joke on these bikes. They are considered to be Harley's by the insurance companies and the insurance is dirt cheap.
Go to http://www.progressive.com
Click on their motorcycle insurance and do a quote, it's free. They will show online what it cost after you fill out everything. You can also go back and add coverage or remove and play around with the total cost. It would cost me $84 for 12 months. I'm 40, kids, married, own a house with good credit and own my bike out right. I picked just about all the coverage they offered and it cost me $623
All other sports bikes are considered extreme high risk so you pay allot in insurance.

I would sell your honda privately, you will get more money for it then trading in.
You will more than likely pay MSRP for a new firebolt. I would look at used maybe 2003 or 2004 and take out a loan thru your credit union since they normally have better rates.

I would also suggest selling your current bike instead of trading in...even on consignment you would lose about 10%.

I pay about 250 a year for liability/uninsured coverage in California...35, not married, and own a house with good credit. If I wanted full replacement coverage it would be about 700 a year.

I am selling my other bike since after having the Buell for the last year, it just doesn't do it for me. I would like to have another bike but it will likely be a off road/dual sport so that it is different riding.

Can you send me pictures,miles,other info about the CBR?
I can work up some numbers for you.

As far as selling instead of trading you need to remember that when you trade you only pay tax on the difference. As an eample(not your actual numbers)
If a trade in bike is worth 5000 on trade, you would need to get at least 5250. selling it yourself just to make up the tax difference, figured at 5%. Then you have the $$ it cost to advertise it. You also have the time wasted waiting for people to come over to look at it(some of which will not show up). Then they will want to test ride it, very risky, could crash it, could steal it.
You also run the risk of strangers, sometimes with "other" motives knowing where you live and that you have cool toys for them to come back for later(yes, this has happened)
I agree, sometimes you can come out ahead selling the trade yourself but not always. I let my customers decide.
I think I have a buyer for the CBR so I would probably have it less than an hour. The last CBR I traded for lasted 20 minutes at the shop! It helps when you know and ride with riders of all brands!

I did not know that about the taxes.

So what you are saying is if a bike cost say 10000 dollars and I paid 1000 dollars in tax for it that trading in a bike for 5000 would mean I pay only 500 in taxes? If this is true that is definitely something to think about.

It is true what you say about the time spent to sell a vehicle...I typically go the consignment route because its gets exposure to more potential buyers.

when you trade a bike in, you only pay the tax for the price after tradin, well worth it in my book. as daves said, much less hassle, especially selling motorcycles, to who knows who...

Yep, Matt that's how it works.
Whatever your tax rate is, you need to get that much more out of your bike when you sell it yourself just to break even.

When I traded a V Rod for my '05 XB12S, there was NO sales tax (7% here). We also have property tax here in NE, so after a trade and credit on taxes already paid on the rod it only cost $41 to license my Buell.

Yep, I did get more for trade-in on the Rod than the selling price of the Buell, so there was 0 sales tax.

Hmmm. Got a call this morning from an insurance broker--I had dropped off an application for coverage over the weekend--and was told the underwriter had declined my application, because Buell is not on their list of covered brands (I'm sure H-D is!).

Not a problem--I already have the same coverage from another underwriter, was just looking for a quote to compare. Here in BC, vehicle insurance is a bit weird, to say the least!

Well I don't think I will get a firebolt because progressive quoted me for a little over $3000 a year. Thats like a $1900 jump over what I pay now. I'd like to have one but it doesn't look like it will happen.

Have them quote you on a 9S and a Cityx, then if the prices are lower ask them why since the frames and engines are the same.

But you're not alone in what you found.

Redline try Statefarm they only look at the cc of the motorcycle. I think I am paying $23 a month for the max insurance they have. I am 35 y/o. Shop around before you say that is to much for insurance.

I'm 44 and have my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee $746/yr , 1979 Z/28 $86/yr and my house with State Farm, Max coverage on all.

For insurance quote, you could also check with HD, They have several underwriters and will give you the best one.

I did the same thing. I had a 2001 Blk & Silver F4i, it was the only inline 4 I ever owned, paid $7000 out the door in Jan of 02'. I rode the bike for a few thousand Miles and found myself wanting to ride my Sportster more then the F4i. I had been racing a V twin, switched to a 2 stroke 250 Vtwin and thought I would race the 600. I did not like the power delivery of the inline, so I sold it bone stock with all maintance records for $5500 in 03'. My stable was then down to My sportster and my GP bike. I was going to buy a XB9R last year but waited until January of this year(bikes usually go keeper after the Xmas credit card bills come in) BUY THE XB YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT......

I bought a used XB9R with 4200 miles on it for $5400 with the race kit, custom pipe and a few other extras added. I've seen some amazing deals on Firebolts on cycletrader.com.

If you want used, Just keep looking and be patient. One thing that hindered me is I live in California and had to search high and low for a 50 state bike.

New? Talk to Dave S. I bet he could probably get you one of the best deals possible. I've seen ads for new 'bolts on cycletrader and they seemed like good prices.

State Farm, PA, XB12R, 29 old, $740/yr, but that's with really good coverage.
Everyone else was prohibitively expensive for a first-time rider on a 1200cc rocket. I hear they drop ya like a rock after you put a claim in, tho.
