This weekend I was playing around and launched into a major wheelie, at least 80 degrees. After scaring the crap out myself and coming back down my oil light came on. I immediately stopped and shut off the bike. I let it cool down for a few minutes and then tried to start it and the light was still on. I then called a friend for a ride and got my truck and took it back home. The next morning I started it and the light wasn't on but the valve train was a little noisier than usual. I was planning on changing the oil any way so I did and added the HD synthetic oil. Everything seems to be fine, and sounds normal now but just wanted to see if any one else has had this happen? | ||

From what I remember aren't you suppost to start it/turn it off like 40 times for the warning light to disappear. Maybe for a second the bike thought your oil level was too low and threw a warning light. | ||

The next day I checked the oil level and it seemed fine. I let the engine warm up a bit before I checked since the light was off but was still kind of worried, manual says to check oil when engine is warm. Yeah I was thinking that since I hit such a huge angle the oil feed lines may have picked up some air. I went straight up an then down, not riding the wheelie. At first I thought something may have happened from the jolt coming down. Does anyone know of a Oil Pressure gauge for the XB or anyone that has tried using a Harley one? I would feel more comfortable with a pressure gauge than just a light. | ||

You can add any gauge you want pretty much, it will have its own fittings and sensor. | ||

Never had that one happen and I have dropped it so hard a few times that I was afraid I hurt my rim  xbolt12 | ||

There could also be a short. I notice that sometimes when I get around 100mph it sounds like the horn starts cutting on and off. I bought the bike used with 2050 miles on it. When I changed the oil it was pretty black. Looking in the manual some of the systems for the light on above idle can be: Cogged feed line (ice and sludge). Air-bound oil line. Grounded oil switch wire. I'm thinking Air-bound oil line because of the noise change in the valve train. Went for an errand on the bike after work today and everything still seems to be ok. It just kind of sucked this weekend because last week I threw a rod in one bike, dead battery in another, and then the problem with my XB. Sunday I decided to adjust my steering head bearing play and busted the upper fork clamp at the pinch bolt. Good excuse to by a cool billet upper fork clamp and overbore the cylinder on the bike with a thrown rod. |
