When I got my '03 XB9S I immediately removed the passenger pegs as unneeded and ugly. But recently I read of how they protected the swingarm. I don't have swingarm protectors but recall reading about them. I'd prefer not to have the pegs, but in the meantime I'm putting them back on.

Any advice from the experienced?

After my wreck, I would say keep the pegs and add the swingarm protectors. My left side passenger peg is ground all the way down to a nub with mild road rash on the swing arm.

Even though the bike might 'look better' without them, I too can say keep the pegs. They have more than one use. Get the swingarm sliders too. That's what I will be doing when I can.

I know where you can get some swingarm sliders!

From personal experience, the rear peg hangers do help protect the swingarm, but If I would have had the sliders, my swingarm and rear axle would have been a lot better off.

I took mine off right after I bought the bike.
I also have the swingarm sliders.
The sliders did their job well, with no other damage to the rear of the bike.
Ground down 3/4 of an inch off the slider at 50mph on pavement.

the passenger pegs seem to catch the asphalt and flip the bike, which is my assumption on how my bike fliped on an 15mph lowside.
