I was thinking about removing mine. Does it even do anything? Bare tire all the way around would look badass. Anyone remove it yet? Any feedback/reccomendations on leaving it on or taking it off? |

Looks to me the rear shock would take quite the beating without the rear fender to defend it. I (being me) wouldn't take it off. |

I extended mine to protect the undertail. |

I think I'm gonna take mine off. If the only thing that it's protecting is the shock, I'm not really worried about it. The shock will be alright it it get's hit by a pebble here or there. |

i cut mine down a pretty good bit. It only extends about 2 inches now. Better than nothing, but not as noticeable... |

Doesn't it stop most of the water that the rear wheel picks when driving in the rain? I get quite some rain in the Netherlands and my coat already gets smudged, I expect that to get worse without it. |

You'll get a good deal of dirt/grime/crap on the damper shaft. It'll destroy the seal faster. Good luck. |

I'd like to see it a bit longer (without having to buy the cf unit from American Sportbike). Form should follow function IMO--the fender allows too much crud onto the shock (and oil fill area) as it is. |

Agreed... Although I like the one from American Sport Bike. (Message edited by m1combat on April 07, 2005) |

I just bought the carbon extended, haven't mounted it yet though. I hope it works better than the stock one... |

Dago, how'd you extend yours? I like the shape of the CF extended hugger, but don't have any other CF bits on my bike, so it'd be out of place. If the same thing were done in basic black plastic (or unfinished fiberglass, even), I'd be all over it. -Geof |

I called American Sport Bike and said, "Send me an extended rear hugger, Al!" It only took me a few minutes. |

I agree, I wish someone would make one that would match us non-carbon-fiber guys... |

Dago, that sounds suspiciously easy--you sure there wasn't a bit more to it than that? Hmmm...I notice there is a "Geofg" on this site, not to be mistaken for myself. I just might have to change the ol' username to avoid confusion. |

Well I forgot to mention that I had to painstakingly unscrew two bolts, and then replace them in their original positions to install the new fender. There was sweat running all down my face that day. |

I removed my rear fender.........only to replace it with the CF version from American Sport Bike. Now it matches my front CF fender..and the oil cooler scoop...I think I am addicted to the CF. While jacking up the bike and removing the rear wheel were a PITA, it was not hard. What was hard was dealing with one of the 2 fender screws, which was bent into place. Another case of a 1 hour job taking 4 hours..... ANYWAY, I got the extended CF fender not just cause I like CF, but only 1 ride through a few puddles showed me how much bike cleaning i'd have to do after every ride with the useless stock fender. I live in Florida. I ride in the rain all the time. That fender does nothing for stopping water. The water is steaming up your back before it even gets to the fender. Cutting the cheese grader off didn't help anything either. So I don't think that's a good reason to keep it on. I can agree with it protecting the shock a bit. |

LOL, thanks Dago. 8) Geoffg, Yeah, I noticed the similarity between our usernames a while back - it's caused some confusion w/my dealer already. We worked it out, though, so no problems. -Geof (The other Geofg) |

Yeah, I noticed the similarity between our usernames a while back - it's caused some confusion w/my dealer already. We worked it out, though, so no problems. I sincerely doubt my dealer knows that BadWeb exists, other than a few offhand comments I've made about getting some info from an internet message board (of course, got the response that I shouldn't trust anything I read online...hmmm, I hope I can trust SOME of what I read here!). Anyway, I've made the change now, so hopefully no more confusion in the future! |

anyone try putting a small lip on the underside of the fender? maybe rubber or even a nylon brush material that will wear away and conform, mostly, to the shape of your tire to stop the spray? just a thought. |
