Starter- thanks for the link to the oil comparison. That site is THE place if you want to learn about lubricants.

Now, if someone would just post UOA's (used oil analyses) for the same oils....

A little clarification on those "stats" would be great right about now. Which elements listed in high amounts are a good thing? Which are bad? In Buells of course!

Kowpow- There's a little bit of discussion in the thread that has the oil analysis, but as you can see there is debate as to what's good and what's not. The posted info just lists the additives in the oils, not what the base stock is made of (which may be quite different among those oils). One thing you can see is that the additive package for Mobil-1 15W-50 (whatever they're calling it now, it ain't "red cap" any more) and Mobil-1 20W-50 V-twin seem to be really close.

You can browse the different threads on that site and pick up a lot of info on tribology (science of lubrication). Of course you see WAG opinions just like anywhere else but there are enough smart people posting there that you can pick up the valid info. I'd really like to see Used Oil Analyses (UOA) for those oils. This involves running the oil in an actual engine for a specified number of miles and then analyzing the oil for wear products, pH, etc. The UOA's seem to be a better measure of how good an oil is, because it shows what happens to it and what it does to the engine (wear products) in actual service. I'm sure there are already UOA's for Syn 3 and Mobil-1 old-formula "red cap" posted there somewhere if you can dig them out.

There is lots of info at that site. It can just get kind of tedious to sift through it all for good info you can use.
