If Buell would offer a factory built race bike
That the public could buy, I would be first in
line. The same type format as the ama bikes.
Offer it as a none street legal race bike, NO WARRANTY

I'd have tags on mine somehow.}

Mike,

There was a racing Buell for sale from Harding H-D in the March edition of Road Racing World.

Hal's is in the process of making a replica of their track bikes that will be available. I just heard about it a couple days ago directly from them. They seem quite excited about putting it together. When? I didn't ask. I'm not quite ready for another one yet.

They do good stuff,
Daves sells good stuff,
If Daves worked for Hal's
Life would change as we knew it.

Yeah, but a lot of us Hal's customers would be a lot happier! At least in the sales department. However, Hal's Parts, Service and Performance Shop are all top notch.

Hal's most definitely is approachable... keep in mind if you're buying race only stuff, you're going to be getting a frame and engine stamped "RACE ONLY" from Buell - and then only after showing proof of racing experience (license)

Don't know if Hals would consider selling a licenseable bike as cheaply as they could sell a track-only bike. If you give them your already-registered bike, then they can do the mods and you're good to go.

Contact Jim Winter there - he can explain it all - if this "race package bike" is a happening thing or not.

I know when I have visited them, they did say they have already put together performance parts for street riders and could certainly build a replica or full-race bike but... I'd bet if you NEEDED a FX-caliber bike, you'd probably be looking at at $20-$25K bike (guessing) - maybe more if you want all the trick suspension and brake stuff.

Give Jim a call but yeah, there IS a demand for these things but not knowing any better, I'm betting if you buy a "race ready" bike from them, it's not going to be able to be registered.

Their speed shop is at:

http://halspa.com/

That being said, you ought to call Dave S - see what he can do for you. There's no MAGIC in putting together a milder version of a bored-out XB12 with all the candy. Besides, If you are racing once every month, it'll be a couple years before you're going fast enough to "NEED" all the power the bike can put out with the higher compression and exotic stuff (including custom dual injectors and exotic intakes) - not that I'm any shining example of skill - but it took me about 2 years to hit the podium at Willow Springs for the first time and there's STILL a lot of unused horsepower in my bike.

Keep in mind, the Hals FX bikes we're all reading about are pretty much one-weekend, no-compromise race motors and running $7 a gallon race gas (probably 114 octane)

Thanks for all the info.
The truth is, I have a champagne taste on a beer budget.
But I still like to dream.
I will be spending some funds this winter on the heads and bore.

And yes, every bike I’ve rode at the track had way more
power than I could use. My last track bike was a 01 ZX9R
and the motor was stock. The one before that was a 92 ZX7RR
and the motor was also stock. But on the street, you can always
use more.

That is the street going version of their XB9 race bike. I almost bought it last summer but someone was already in Finance with it and when the deal fell through the salesperson just plain forgot to call me.

The bike really wasn't street legal in the true sense of the word, but Hal's assured me that they would get it registered in Wisconsin. I assume that they can do the same for other states as well. I think the only exception would be California as the bike only had a few miles on it.

When I was at Hal's a few weeks ago to check out the Street Rod, the salesman I was talking to said they still had it and would make me a deal. As I was no longer interested in it, I didn't ask to see it so I can't swear it is the same bike, but if even if it is a clone, someone may want to contact them and start negotiations.

Trust me, the bike is a work of art and whomever buys it will own a piece of history.

Norris....

If you're looking for a true race bike, either wait a few years or plan on spending some serious ching. If you want it to look like a race bike, buy the bodywork and do the work yourself. Hal's sells the body work on the above posted bike. They also sell the chain conversion with the revised swingarm (see the above pic).

Hal's has a license or some kind of agreement with Sharkskinz on the bodywork - there's a TON of development they'd funded to get the shapes they're running. They've also finished development on the V-Force induction - the "Ram's Horn" type intakes you see on their racebikes. Not compatible with a streetbike unless you are willing to relocate the headlights and gages. You'd be the only kid on the block with those mods though!

Interesting to note that there are no sliders welded on the frame spars of that Hals' white racer...

Rokoneer - the "stick-on" sliders probably do a pretty good job for the typical tip over at almost any speed. I think the weld-on sliders are more than a few hundred $$ by the time you pay a certified welder to get it done.

I've crashed twice hard (and a few not-so-hard) racing mine and in both cases, the frame was still raceable - just seriously ugly - with no sliders of any sort. Not too smart - sliders were "next on the list" of things to do until the race/crash last month.

I saw that bike in Hal's showroom and I'm trying to remember what mods were done to the motor... I'm thinking it's a short-stroke/big bore of some form. Trust me, if somebody had the $$$, that'd be some sweet street ride... but the warranty would be between the buyer and Hals.

I'm very sorry about the triple post above, but when I was trying to post it I kept getting a page that I wasn't permitted to do so. I tried three times and gave up only to find out that it had indeed posted.

Now I'm supposedly unable to delete two of them due to access being denied.....

Chris, did you add it to the family collection???

You can actually weld your own slider mounts on.

Done without removing the motor...just drained the tank & flushed it with plenty of air.

Shouldn't you fill the tank w/ water?

Those look like they would withstand sliding but maybe not the initial impact if the bike was dropped at low speed from a small lean angle... Something like a parking lot drop. I think a right angle with more surface area for the weld would work better. Were they whacked with a sedge hammer for final approval?

I still like the Buell pucks.

The weld-ons I saw being sold at Hal's were pretty large weld area. Believe it was a grade 5 bolt used to hold the slider on so that if you fell at speed, you wouldn't tear a chunk out of the frame, the bold would bend instead

Concerning the Hal's Race Replica, the asking price was $12.5k. What it sold for, I have no clue.
