I will be needing tires pretty soon. Wondering on what are peoples opinions on replacements....i'm not getting the dunlops....just heard bad things about them......i'm concerned about wear  . i don't want a race tire that only lasts a few months. | ||

I'm fond of the Pirelli Diablo's. Seem to have better "stick" in the wet and cold than the Dunlops. I have 6051 miles on the rear Diablo and I haven't hit the wear bars yet (getting close!) The Rear Dunlop 207 and 208 lasted barely 5000 each. The fronts Dunlops I got about 7500 each from. YMMV  Only loss of traction I can recall with the Pirelli's is crossing frosty railroad tracks while hitting the gas, and the slippery-when-wet crosswalk stripes. | ||

Pirelli diablo's and Metzeler M1's are the same tire. I get about 3K out of a rear M1 and got about 9K out of the front, but it was VERY worn. From now on I'll swap the front w/ every other rear. If you want more mileage... I have heard good things about Metzeler Z6's... | ||

I just put on the M1's. Its like a whole new bike. Sadly enough every time I needed tires on any of my previous bikes, I just bought a new bike. But I can tell you the stock Dunlops are nothing compared to the M1's. There are some great deals on the internet as well. I have heard good things about the Scorpions as well. I think they come stock on the City Cross. | ||

Michelin Pilot Powers. Awesome tires. I can't say how long their rubber life really is because i just put them on. But man they feel awesome in the corners. Just another option to check out. They are supposed to have some special long lasting rubber in them that makes them wear like a touring tire but stick like a race slick. Check them out. | ||

I know many people don't like the Dunlops but I just replaced the stock 207's with some 208's and they are much better. Don't know how long they will last but they handle great. | ||

The 208's should be a lot better than the 207's as well, but my guess would be that they won't work as well as the M1's in the wet. | ||

the Metzeler Z6 sportec cant be beat for wet grip, tread wear, and all around handling. try them, you will like them. | ||

When stock rear wore out around 3.5k, I put the Avon AV45/46's on my 12r. I haven't had any traction problems even in the rain. I had 5k on rear before it got a nail, still showed little wear. I have 9k on the front currently, no cupping, no wear marks showing. I will replace with same until I get clear data others are better. | ||

Mikethebike72 Hahah I was going to mention the same tire setup, Got a friend who has them on his kawi, now with over 10,000 klm`s on em and THey still look rather NEW and he does alot of highway driving So should wear flat in the middle quicker but NOT, also he says he takes corners on it at 200 klm`s and they Do indeed STick good , I`m tired of spending big COIN on tires every year So I`m sticking these on my 12`s from now on and unless you are going to the track and touching your knees all day long they are all you need and also he said they are good in the WEt , so take it for what its worth.. | ||

I put a set of Continental Road Attack tires on last spring and I love them. They are just now getting to the point where they will need replaced soon. Currently they have 9K miles on the back tire and 11K on the front. The stick well enough that between Running the Ridge, and the Dragon, last fall that there are no chicken strips left! To me they stick at least as well or better than the original Dunlops. Great mileage AND good traction.... Works for me! Just my .02! | ||

I just put a set of the continental road attacks on, man they hook up great for a sport touring tire. I needed a tire that would last not a track day tire. These are supposed to last around 10K. | ||

I just bought a set of Dunlop 208's. They were a whisker above $200 for both of them. They seem to handle better than 207's.The best price I can find on some of the above suggestions is roughly 170 bucks for just the rear tire. I just can't see the advantage! | ||

Metz M1's a Pirelli Diablos are the same construction, but different tread. Either Diablos or M1's can be found for just over $200/pr on the net. | ||

One thing I'm finding out about the Dunlop 208's is that they are crappy for braking. I know the recent tire discussion thread talks about the wear of a lot of different brands/makes, but they seem to leave out braking on most. When these 208's wear out, they will be the last pair of Dunlops this bike sees. Nothing but slide. | ||

IN MY OPINION, DUNLOP NEEDS TO GO OUT OF BUSSINESS. THEY SUCK. I WILL NEVER OWN A SET EVER AGAIN. GOD FORBID IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO MY BIKE AND I HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER ONE, AND IT HAS DUNLOPS, I WILL TAKE THEM RIGHT OFF, AND THROW THEM AWAY. GO WITH DIABLOS. THEY ROCK. | ||

I vote for Diablos also. Just put on a set four days ago and its like a whole new bike! Tree nails in the first 1800 miles forced the switch. If I new then what I know, now I would have forced the switch at the dealer before driving it off the lot. The Dunlops seem inferior to me. | ||

You didn't indicate what your choice of typical conditions and riding are - aggressive riding? Occasional rain? Milder riding? Haven't seen ANY justification to change from stock tire sizes - 120/70 abd 180/55. Some folks like the look of fatter rear tire but the ghetto-look just means slow turn-in to me. I'll add a vote for Diablos - assuming you're going for mileage over handling in turns. Diablos handle pretty well. If you are going to throw it harder through the turns, Diablo Corsa. If you are going to hit rain more often, I've heard the Diablo do a little better. I haven't heard reports on Michelin Pilot Race in harder compounds... might even hold up pretty well but if you are riding in a lot of rain, you just can't lean over hard. Tread isn't cut to the edges - like the Supercorsa. Yeah, I tend to "lean" on Pirelli | ||

I just order an Avon AV46 rear tire from motoxoutlet.com for $119 with $15 shipping to Hawaii. I'll let you know what I think when I get it in and mounted.  | ||

I've been using the 207's and most recently the 208's. After my lowside, I've gotta switch (it was the tire not the Operator!  ). I've looked at Pirelli Diablos and then Michelin, who in my opinion, has always made good tires, came out with the Pilot Power. After pricing them, I'll go with the Michelin's. I don't think I'll be dissatisfied. Stock sizes. |
