Sorry about the loss of your belongings José. Thanks for all the pictures of the race teams. I look forward to your visits to the tracks every year.

I don't understand why people leave things on their bikes that can get ripped off. I see $500+ helmets left on bikes all the time. Even if they are locked, someone could just cut the strap.

I have one of those little fork bags on my harley. Even though it locks, I don't leave anything of value in it. Again, someone could just cut the straps and walk off with the whole bag.

Damn Jose..

Reminds me of when Robin (BumbleBuell) had her lid and gloves stolen off her bike when she went into a restaurant. The bike was parked around the side, out of sight (of course) and someone just came along and lifted them. If not for someone having a spare skid lid in their saddlebags, she would have been hard pressed to make it back home without a ticket or some such from MD LE. Good thing I didn't see the culprit on the road.. I'd still be doing the paperwork on it..

You know, it’s odd.. But at some places, like the dealer, you never really hear of some one ripping off stuff left on a bike.. But once you get into those very large, very public places.. it seems that it brings out the dirt bag in some folks.. Sad really.. Oh well.. Enough dwelling on the sad stuff..

Keep up the pics.. And the reports.. Hope the rest of your visit goes well..

Later,

Yes I should have taken that bag with me but I did not so that's the way it goes. Ironically I had also left my Suomy helmet on the bike, covered with an HJC helmet bag, locked under the seat, but they chose not to cut it. The bag just unclips in three spots so it's very easy to remove quickly without attracting attention.

Day 3:

The gang (Mike, Nancy, Greg, Dana, etc) stayed up late last night and got caught in a huge thunderstorm, they didn't hit the road today till 11 am from what they said. They rode down to the Ponce inlet and had lunch there before I met them at Hooters for dinner. They went to the go kart track afterwards.

I had to head to Orlando early because my bike is making some really nasty sounds coming from the primary area. I think the primary shoe broke and the chain is slapping around, but I'll find out tomorrow morning after the bike cools off.

The word for today at Daytona was not cold, but WINDY. It was bad enough that Buell and Triumph chose not to do demo rides today.

So I only got to demo four bikes: Yamaha VMAX & FJ1300 and the Suzuki DL1000 VSTROM and SV1000S.

The VMAX is insanely fast, as long as you are only going straight.

The FJ was pretty neat, monster horsepower in a two up sport tourer. Some guy from Speedchannel interviewed me about my demo ride, we'll see if it gets on the air.

The DL1000 was very comfortable, very tall and a little top heavy. It suffered the most in the cross winds and was hard to keep it pointed down the road.

The SV was kind of a let down. I love the 650cc version but the 1000cc version does not "connect" with me for some reason. It does everything right, but it lacks "character". It did the best of the four in the cross winds, it was unaffected by them.

Tomorrow, first day of AMA practice/qualifying should be fun to watch.

Jose, what time do you plan to demo the Buell's?

I'm aiming for around 1pm-2pm tomorrow.

I met 3 Buell riders yesterday and saw 8 total on the rode. Good day all in all. Wish I could get a shirt from the demo team.

José, what's your thoughts on the lack of Buell teams for the AMA event. When they were plentiful for the FUSA. Obviously the 200 is a grueling race, but don't you think it was a missed opportunity after all the preseason buzz concerning the FX team (Cycle World).

Did anyone see a prototype Buell in Daytona with a VROD engine? I read this on some Canadian website that Buell would have one there. Anyone ride the new Street Rod?

Yeah, I got to Hooters around 6 pm and nobody was there, DaveFL and his wife/GF hung out for about a half hour then left.

About an hour later the gang rolls in, but as mentioned, the Hooters was taken over by kawasaki folks, so we moved the party down to a place the Fourth Turn in South Daytona.

The word today was RAIN.

The AMA racers only had time for one practice session in each class before the rain began and washed out the rest of the day,

The "Sponsor" pass that I got from Blake lets me go pretty much anywhere, including the hot pit area behind the white wall. Here's just one of the pictures I took, Kurtis Roberts looking at his FX bike.

No Buells practiced, heck there were no Buells in the Paddock at all.

Shawn Higbee is still in the hospital from I heard so he won't be ready and it looks like there will be no Buell in the 200 this year. It's a shame but things like that happen.

The deal with Hal's was that they were breaking exhaust studs after 10-12 laps back when they participated in the Winter Tire test. So they did not want to spend a bunch of money on airtravel, hotels, tires, etc, to go run for 10-12 laps and have an exhaust stud break during the race. Better to save that money for the rest of the season. Hard call, but probably the correct one.

There will be two Ducatis, so I'll be cheering for them Saturday.

No, that's in another thread, I think it was a bogus story.

I did demo ride the StreetRod and it's a hoot to ride. They did a nice job with it. No cruiser should be able to hang with somebody riding one unless they are way better than the rider on the Street Rod.

There are a bunch of customized VRODs running around Daytona, lots of wide tire kits and stuff like that. Here's one:

How about some Buell pictures?

Ok here's a good one, somehow these three bikes ended up parking next to each other at the speedway this morning:

Buells

yes, I did ride my bike today, yes it still makes a horrible noise from the primary side, and yes I will be driving from now on!

nice to meet everyone in person! and the weather should get much much nicer soon! so, we'll see everyone tomorrow on their bikes (rather than black pt cruisers and silver volvos - which transported 7 of the buellers tonight!)

and sorry we were a bit late to hooters, frank, steve, and i had a bit of a miscommunication and technology issue...and it took us quite a while to meet up! also hard to time with the interstate, rush hour, and rain! but the party *did* arrive with us

frank's taking me to pick up my bike at 8am, so i'll be on the vroom vroom tomorrow bright and early. see you all in daytona tomorrow!

Anyways, hope to meet some more random Buell people this week.

i drove by hooters a couple of times during the day and say the kawasaki folks taking up the parking lot. Because of the rain i decided to stay in edgewater. Don't know if i'll get back over by the race track before i go home. I've been everywhere except main street. Beach street was fun.....lots of stuff to see and a few "entertaining drunk" people. Watch some bikes run the dyno drag...but no buells in site. Even saw a chopper that was all buell(motor forks, etc....) with a for sale sign on it. If some of you guys are going to be around the track let me know....i should be free this evening for beers somewhere

Should we make another meeting for Friday?

If anyone cares, I will be going over tomorrow (Friday). My plan is to go the vendor area at the speedway early (9am) then over to the Battletrax after that (noonish?).

Perhaps sometime around lunch? cell 727-460-2708.

Where is everyone going to meet up on Saturday? 1313, M2nc and I will be down there for the weekend and we're not sure if we're going to the race since the Buells aren't running. I wouldn't mind meeting up with some other badwebbers.

For those coming Saturday, the Buell Demo Truck will not be by the pedestrian bridge as it is now it will move over to the east side of the speedway by the airport near the HD Demo Truck. But that's a good place to meet people if you are not going inside to watch the race.

Day 4:

All racing, all day. Spent all day in the pits taking photos & soaking it all in. The Superstock Race was pretty exciting, the crowd went wild when V. Haskovek won. The Supersport not as exciting but it was cool to see Tommy Hayden win.

Michael Barnes had a great day, finishing 7th in the supersport race and qualifying 5th for the Daytona 200 on his supersport spec R6 Yamaha.

After the stuff at the speedway ended I drove down to municipal stadium to watch the short track. I hooked up with Mike, Dana, Greg and a few other folks for that. Many crashes tonight, hopefully nobody got hurt. The final was won by Jake Johnson on the American Suzuki Factory Dirt Track team. Every time the announcer said American Suzuki the crowd would grumble.

The Factory HD rider Rich King did not make the main. He was running his Rotax Powered HD500, not the "Blast" powered one.

It took longer to the get out of that place than it did to watch the final race.

The guys rode into the cold night somewhere, I went home I was really tired.

Today is the KTM Battletrax.

Jose,
Nice to meet you this week. I will be back to the race track on Saturday, maybe I will see you there. I would like to take another ride on the Street Rod. I will start riding back to Long Island on Saturday afternoon. I am not sure when I will get home.
