I have an 04 XBSL. I took the advice here and cut the 9 air box and order the 12 box. I just got the 12 box in last night. My question is should I cut the 12 box or leave it stock? I have a K&N, D&D on the bike now. thanks Aaron  | ||

I would cut it. I cut mine. Works great. Although I dont really know how well it worked without it being cut. (Message edited by lpd22 on March 10, 2005) | ||

I have the 12 lid, K&N, stock can, and I feel a difference. I will install a TFI before I put a cut muffler on my bike, just for safety. Sounds like you are on the same path, just different steps. It will run lean at some point. I have not reached that point yet, and you are most likely closer than me with the D&D. just my $ .02 tank | ||

Is there a reason that a 12 box works better than a cut 9? I have not seen the 12 box, I cut large holes in my stock 9 top and can't imagine flowing more air with a different top. | ||

The 12 air box has a dimple looking thing right in the center of the air cleaner that is suppose to flow better. | ||

The dimple probably makes even more difference then the cut airbox... It comes stock with the new airbox on the 9's as well as of 2005. | ||

Aaron, No, I have not cut the 12 lid.........yet!! If I do, I will most likely just keep the portion for the top of the filter like many others have done. tank |
