Did some reading of past posts and noted that there were some who had trouble using after market windscreens. Seems there was some kind of reflection or magnifying effect which caused the clear instrument panel plastic to bubble up. Leads me to some questions... I would like to know if you use an after market windscreen? If so which brand and model? Is it clear, smoke, dark or some other color? Have you had any problems caused by the after market windscreen with the clear plastic on you instrument panel? Has it caused any other problems? If it caused your instrument panel plastic to bubble, why do you think it did that? Was it the light reflecting off the inside of the windscreen and onto the panel, or was it a magnifying effect from the sun passing thru the windscreen and focused on the instrument panel, or some other reason? My double bubble zero gravity smoked screen melted a spot about the size of a dime in my gauge cluster.  .Now i ALWAYS put my gloves under the screen if i have to leave her sitting in the sun. (Message edited by buelltroll on March 10, 2005) | ||

Ditto here. Same screen, same symptoms. I think the melting is only an issue with the Zero Gravity smoked double bubble. I don't recall seeing any posts anywhere from other Zero Gravity models or double bubble colors. See another of my posts which shows a response from Zero Gravity on the melting problem. They pretty much blame it on Buell, saying more or less that the instrument cluster melts too easily, but also say that they are aware of this product causing similar problems on other bikes. Keep in mind that there are lots of ZG DB owners that never experience "the burn". I expect they may chime in here as well. | ||

I have the 0g ST in clear. No problems. | ||

I had the zero grav dble-bble dark. Bubbled my cluster in one place about the size of a dime. | ||

I have the 0g Double Bubble in Dark Blue. I have indentations (3) on the black plastic on the lip directly in the center. Had the screen off 3 times. Originally I thought it was melting from the inside. I swapped speedo/tach cluster with a fellow Bueller for a couple of weeks and his had acquired the same indentation. | ||

So the big question is (and I think I remember reading this somewhere) is it just the DB screen that causes this? If I were to put a dark smoke standard height screen or ST screen (with no bubble in it) would that lessen the chances of damaging the cluster? I really like the DB style and had them on my last two bikes but I don't want to put one one if it's going to damage my XB. Billy |
