I spoke to a dealer in Ohio that said the model has now been changed to 03' for the Firebolt and July is when they will get them. FYI. For all those folks with money down it will be a long wait I'm sure. Hopefully they will have a warehouse full of bikes to ship to eager folks like myself. | ||

i know what you mean about the wait! my v=rod has been delayed 3 times. im getting to first one to arrive. my dealer called me today and said that he just got off the phone with harley. all the v-rods are going to be shipped the end of this week. we shall see. | ||

Got my first look at the Firebolt this weekend. It was parked near a friend's house in Boston. I stopped to take a look and it was really impressed. It is reallly small and compact, and looks real fast. It had manufacturer tags from Wis. on itand had no markings to let anyone know it was a Buell. I looked at it for a while and was waiting for the lucky SOB who was riding it around so I could get some first hand info, but he never showed up so I'll have to keep my eyes open. | ||

John at Orlando Buell said the press would be getting Firebolts to test this month (after the dealers rode them in Las Vegas). Doesn't seem right that they would try to disguise a press demo bike, though. Is Buell still testing them? I wonder what the factory found that is causing the delay? | ||

I have heard that the Firebolt first article will be produced on March 1st. Then the ramp-up will begin after that. Figure 33 units a day times 5 will be the top production amount. You do the math. I also hear that supplier slips have caused delays in some parts. So far, about 27 XB9R's have been produced, and they have been pounded to death by riders and are coming out with very few problems, so it looks to be a reliable model. The fuel injection really really works this time, with nary a hickup, and the motor and transmission are as smooth as you can find on a air-cooled push-rod V-Twin. I had heard of Harley dealers gouging $27-30K for V-Rods, and these same dealers are going to be handling Firebolts which is being produced in much smaller quantities. Supply and Demand. Imonabuss, OK, no delays - just a perception of a long delay - When a bike is introduced in July of one year and shipped in, what, March the next year, in many peoples minds that means delayed. Add to that, the fact that the model year changed from 2002 to 2003, tells you something. Perception IS reality. If the Firebolt were called a prototype and concept bike back in July, it would be more understandable. It was just introduced too soon. That is my perception. Jim X-2.5 | ||

I'm just going to throw out a wildassedguess here and say there was more to the announcement timing of the XB than just the production schedule. Corporate planning and gamesmanship all being what it is. Just my probably wrong thoughts on the subject. As a side note, at the Homecoming tour there were some comments on giving "us" the preview to help get the word out. |
