I would like to replace my mirrors with some cool bar ends and I have heard that decent ones can be found at bicycle shops. Does anyone know what kind/size etc. will work? I can't justify $75 (to the woman) for a mirror when a $12 one will do the same job.

Here ya go.
I've used the Third Eye bar end, and liked it, now I'm using the Cat Eye BM300G.
I don't know which I like better, they are both better than my stockers.

Yeah everything you need is there.
You may have to do a little trimming as they fit pretty tight.

I just got a set of those Cateyes off of ebay for $11 including postage.

Haven't got to ride with them yet (snow :-( ) but they look cool.

Also just finished chopping my rear fender and making a license plate/turn signal bracket. I'll post pics ASAP under a new thread.

Moe..

This is what you want right here. 12 bucks.. they are called Cat eyes. I was not to sure about them at first, but after installing them, I'm kicking myself for not doing it earlier. Keep in mind that I tweeked mine a little to fit into my bar ends that I already had on my bike.
Hope this helps.

Bigeasy, those are the Cross Roads bars.
It makes it almost the same as the R only about an inch higher.

In my humble opinion, I prefer the bar ends. I can now see to the rear where as before I could only see to the sides.

Can you actually see anything out of the bar end mirrors or is there too much vibration. I know that my stock mirrors are useless due to the vibration factor.

Any trouble with these moving at high speeds? I had a set like those on my X1 and anything above 60mph, I was looking at myself in the mirror.

My 3rd Eyes cut down on vibes and stay still at high speeds.

No problems with Vibration.. no problems at high speed. They are rock solid at 120+ mph... already road tested.

Is there a reason to place a bar end mirror on the left or right side if using only one?

Some states require a mirror on the left side.

Moe,
Take a pair of pliers to the end plug and pull it out.

It's probably easy. Many here have done it with the 3rd eye round (not oblong) ones, I have pictures in the knowledge vault.

Post a pic of the mirror outside the bar and I can give you a better idea, but in general you just have to get a longer bolt, and the bar end plug for the handguards just becomes an extra spacer (you drill a hole through the center of the plugs).

You could also easily machine a slot onto the existing spacer and let the guards just clip onto that instead of the (now gone) spacer.

Or just cut a bigger hole in the guards so it clips onto those mirrors without modification.

Lots of ways to do it, most all would work well.

Here's a shot of my $10 barends. I got them from the local bicycle shop. They fold easily out of the way.

Looks like you crash tested that frame puck, how did it work? Did the swingarm get scratched?

Damm,
Shoulda photoshoped that up first! kinda embarrassing. I was taking this corner really hard trying to beat a Honda RR and then.... oh well actually in a parking lot, my wife and I were mixed up on which way we were going. She turned right and I thought she was going straight. I dumped it rather than wreck 2 new Buells! So I just fell over. Broke the lever, rider peg, blinker plastic. Glad I didn't have $100 mirrors on!
