For the record, if I understand correctly, it's not Chop getting hacked, it's Chop's internet hosting provider. Like many hosting providers, they have systems *they* administer, and that they control. Chop just gets a slice of diskspace, cpu, and network pipe (perhaps shared on a single host, perhaps shared on a single network). What happened last time was that his hosting service didn't do due diligence on installing patches and securing their setup... and I don't doubt this happened again. I don't think anyone is targeting them beyond noting that they often seem to be a soft target  | ||

CPanel has a fairly bad history of security vulnerabilities. If you *have* to run it, just make it is IP Restricted at the web server or firewall so only your local class B or C subnet (XXX.XXX.XXX.YYY or XXX.XXX.YYY.YYY) can use it. That will stop random attacks and make patching a lot less urgent. Punks are a PITA, even robotic punks. | ||

I wiped out the entire sacborg database. The hackers had gotten into a couple of the tables and changed up a bunch of stuff. I didnt want to keep chasing problems from stuff they had done. Really the only thing I wanted to save out of the board was the Perpetual Discussion. I've backed that up to Dave a couple of times. I did a clean slate wipe. Everyone will have to sign up again and create new passwords. I should have it up and running next week or so. | ||

Hackers must have no sense of humor. If they are so smart to "get in", why bother killing a forum? Wouldn't it be more fun just to mess with posts? Misspell easy words. Change there to their, sale to sail, hole to whole, need to knead and so on. Change the meaning of a sentence or start vicious arguments.....or maybe I shouldn't give them any ideas............. | ||
