62mph............hmmm Might need to leave a little earlier on Friday morn. Ah, I'm sure 62 mph is like speed limit signs (just a friendly guide line).

Who would have ever thought that the term Max Velocity & word Ural would have ever cross path's.

Lost your phone number, email it to me.

Right now I'm on a mt. top, laptop pluggd into an inverter, with aircard internet and I need to go kill some trees. Will try again later.

Its just so complicated and confusing these days.

You gotta be tough to live out west. T-storms always a poosibility in E. Oregon.

Also possible for nightime temps to drop to freezing. Bring suitable clothes and gear.

The maps totaly confused me. I haven't seen such stuff since I tried to beocme a Chess Master and memorize the Flying Philidors Defense.

I think our best hope of finding you guys is to ride NNE and look for skid marks, smoke, and empty beer cans.

Just rolled in myself and got all the dust off everything. What a great time. Reg had issues with bike and had to bail, damn!!
Cory biffed early sat and finally had to call it a day after a day in the dirt. Ron and I were contesting to see who would have the most laydowns(not a get-off or a crash, mind you)when I left it was Jim 3,Ron 4.Dang DR-650 just doesn't quite handle like my MXC 300 KTM--
Justin learned not to cut the inside of an oncoming turn--even on a dirt road,he banged off the front of a Ford F-250.He was a little biffed, bike was fine. Seems there is a gravel surplus in Oregon so every damn measly little dirt path has a nice covering of gravel that makes it like cornering on ball bearings, jeez.Beautiful country, great riding, good friends, beer and a campfire--it doesn't get any better.
Snail and Will sniffed us out by some miracle and pulled into our camp just as we were setting up,much benchracing ensued. Missed them the next night as we were delayed by Justin's little miscue.Have a ton of pics but no time right now.

"Issues?"

Naaa.... it's just that the Ural wasn't very comfortable (in many different ways) at anything over 50-55mph. As the first 300 miles were paved it didn't take long for the troops to realize that waiting for me was going to be the ritual. Couldn't have them do that so, at Elbe I "bailed". I spent the next 3 days/600 miles camping around Mt. St. Helens, then over to the coast.
T'was fun, and the Ural is a quirky interesting beast, but would have preferred to hang wit da homies.

I'd have hung with ya Reg. People are almost always more interesting/enjoyable than any twisty road I've ridden. Big loss for the road burners for sure.

Ever since flying over Mt. St. Helens back in 1985, I've thought it would be very interesting to spend some time on the ground there. Please post pics!

Besides, if for some unimaginable reason I didn't end up enjoying your company, I'd have fun ...

Never mind.

No kickstarter! I thought you were roughing it?

(I found out last week that my KLR-250 will start, idle, and run with absolutely *no* battery, and a voltage regulator that regulates to 4.5 volts... gotta respect that!)

I'm jealous. Wish I could take a ride like that.

Pavement Ends, would be a fitting title to that pic. It was on a WeyCo private logging road adjacent to the Fremont Nat. Forest, between Silver Lake and Bly.

This gravel road was freshly graded, rolled, and then watered. Butter smooth. We were the first vehicles on it after the water truck. I saw 80 mph several times. It ended too soon, but we did etch our tracks in nicely.

Ural

The top pix was at the Artic Campground, south of Aberdeen; beautiful, small (20 spots), cheap ($10) and friendly.

The bottom pix: One of a hundred bridges on a thousand roads; Washington is really a rider's paradise.

Bob...
Glad to see that y'all returned in somewhat the same condition you left. BTW; I'm sorely in need of a photo showing someone in the sidecar. Did you take one of Deb just before we went to the store?

I want to hear what took place after we camped at Leahman.

Did you guys make it all the way as planned, and why did Jim get home before you did?

We were worried, but no so much that it interfered with our own good time.

Reg, I only have a picture of her riding it. Hope all was well with the rest of your trip. (Our's was Epic!)

Snail, the next day started out as usual with most excelent roads and great friends. we were making good time and navigation was easy that day. then.......
Justin has a Head On with an F250.

It threw him and the Drz of the road and down a way's. I past right by not seeing him. Joe was behind me and came up on the scene just as the driver of the truck was helping stablize justin.

Long story short, A couple of hour's later and after the truck (with a strap) helped us pull the bike out. All was well and justin continued the ride. (Hurting)

Damn, that really screwed up the schedule.

Jim, checking the depth of a river crossing. Sexy bastard

Ron's GS rested several times on the trip. Damn heavy beast but really was impressive as to where the super Tanker would go.

Did you throw rocks and splash him?

So did you make it all the way through to CA? Where'd you camp? Godamnit, I want the whole story.

Will and I had a great ride, and next year we're going to put togeather a Diagonal Daze sort of thing where we duplicate our SW/NE (SWINE)jaunt accross OR.

The camp we hit after Leahman, (Big Creek) was perfect for a BIG group. Big campsites on flat ground, fire pits and a shitter.

Thinking of a 'stick and move' ride. Camp in a central location, ride day rides back to camp, then move base camp, repeat.

That whole area (NE OR) is full of prime single track paved/unpaved roads. It was like a disneyland for sport bikes.

Next year lets go a little earlier in the season...say right after school starts.. first week in Sept.

Hope Justin is healed up. Fords are hard.
