Hello Gentlemen,

My '09 1125cr is balky shifting, particularly finding neutral. It requires a lot more lever force to change gears than it used to. The clutch does not drag when disengaged. I had tried automotive oil (with friction modifiers) in the past and it caused the clutch to slip. I've since only used JASO MA2 certified oil (formulated for wet clutches) and the slipping is long gone.

My most recent oil change was 1.5K miles ago and I used Valvoline 10W-40 Full Synthetic Motorcycle 4-Stroke Oil.

Anyone else experiencing this difficulty?

Has anyone found an oil (or other remedy) they can recommend that enables smooth shifting and a non-slipping clutch?

Amsoil 10w40 up here in alberta 40k kms no issues

Valvoline R1, or Mobil 1 (both synthetic)...yes, automotive oil.
Have in all of my bikes since 1986, including my three Buell's.

And three of my past bikes went OVER...100,000 miles. So yeah, "good"...automotive oil works just fine.

I always get Neutral on the way to a stop light by going from second and slowing down then light downward pressure on your gear shift will help it slip out into Neutral.

If I'm still in 1st or 2nd when I get stopped I give shift lever a light nudge with back my boot.

IMHO all this oil angst is of no use. I've used several synthetic oils. H-D Syn 3, Rockoil, others I don't remember. Have never had a problem with the clutch. You need to be looking elsewhere.

Amsoil Dominator 15W50 in all of my motorcycles. No shifting or clutch issues.

So which oil is better to pour?? 20W50, 15W50 or 10W40???
