Saturday I'm going to look at an 1125CR with just under 10k miles on it. Is there anything I should look out for on the 1125's? I know the stator is an issue on these bikes. Also I noticed this one doesn't have the clubman handlebar. Anyone know where to find the factory clubman handlebar?

I'm in Hastings and know of a pair of clubman bars and cables locally. Ask about the charging system (most important thing is the rotor oiling mod), check for leaking out of the clutch cover (right side). Where is the bike you are looking at. If I have time, I might be able to look at it with you.

Valves need to be done at 12,500 miles. If the bike has less than 10k, it probably hasn't been done.

The bike is at a dealership in Gary, IN. I'm driving a ways for this hopefully its not a dud. And local bars would be great but I'll wait on that to see if I bring it home.

1125CR is a great bike with piss poor resale value; $3200 - $3700, especially since it's likely there is no maintenance history

If you pull the seat off, you can check the yellow stator wires at the end of the plug. They should be yellow and not brownish.

I think I found the listing. I see it just has one bar-end mirror. Ask if the originals come with it. They are very expensive to replace. They also house the blinkers. I can't see that they have wired front blinkers in so I'd definitely bring that up.

This bike has a Jardine and I also have one on my 1125CR and actually really like it. Has really good sound and I'm happy with the performance. They seem to hold up better on the 1125s than the XBs. Looked closer at the pictures and the clutch lever is an aftermarket but the front brake lever appears to be stock. I see some sort of scuff or damage to the clutch end cover plug. Can't tell for sure what it is from the picture but I've seen the clutch fluid eat at the paint so it could be clutch weep.

Xbuell12s, That would be the one! Yeah I spoke to them and they said they don't have the mirrors unfortunately . I tried bar end mirrors once and wasn't a big fan of them. And the dealer already disclosed the clutch lever was different. I'm not looking for perfect considering its a 10 year old bike now. Its got little LED turn signals in the front somewhere now. He told me $3850 out the door which to me seems like a pretty good deal. I've got an XB12S with 35k on it now just looking for something a little different since my EBR 1190RX was short lived

If the clutch needs to be fixed, it is about $150 in parts. Charging system rotor upgrade is about $250, stator is about $200, and regulator is about $125. Let me know if you need help doing it because I bought and identical bike and had to do all of the electrical updates. To buy the mirrors new, they are $300 each at SPHD. I bring up these numbers so you can use them in your negotiations.

I got mine in similar condition to yours but it came with stock mirrors and bald tires for $3,500 in Chicago.

Plenty of aftermarket mirrors on Ebay for $30-$40. The look reasonably good and at 10% of the price of stock mirrors, it was a no brainer for me when I busted one in a crash a few years ago.

I agree but a good point to use for negotiations. I would rather sell the stock ones to buy aftermarket ones and pocket the extra cash.

I will probably pick some mirrors up off ebay if I get it. But yes all good points for negotiations. But I suppose there is no way to tell if any of the stuff Xbuell12s mentioned has been dealt with.

Fresno what brand did you go with for mirrors? I am thinking of copying what Loose1 did on his S2, replacing the S3 mirrors with turn signal ones and then putting aux lights where the blinkers were. It looks really nice on his bike.

If you pop the seat off, look at the wires from the stator. There are 3 of them. If the ends are not yellow and are more brown, then the stator is likely cooked. If the stator is cooked, the rotor likely hasn't been updated.

How fast were the stators burning out in these bikes?

Usually 6-8k miles. Mine had the stator replaced but not the rotor so it burned up 2 by the time I replaced the rotor.

I find it unlikely a CR made it 10k on its original stator and without the clutch weep fix. Who knows, crazier things have happened. If the dealer doesn't know, then ask them to knock off a few hundred in case you must do it yourself.

Jamiec had over 20k on his when he sold it, original charging system. I know there are others out there with more.

Sdxb12s, pull the seat off, see if the Harley "fix" is still in place. If the dealer doesn't know if the charging system has been upgraded, tell him you want to verify the stator is functioning properly, takes about 5 minutes to check the stator output and continuity if you have a multimeter; could be an excellent bargaining point. You can search the forum or google it. Clutch weep will be obvious: case will be wet and/or discolored at the puck.

So what the dealio on the Harlay fix? Is it considered a band aid? It probably served to extend the life of the stator beyond the warranty period, so when it did fail it was on the owner's dime.

That being said, if you are aren't running the Harley fix, you are doomed to an early demise of the stator? I believe at minimum the Harley fix eats up batteries for the benefit of the stator. I am just curious if there are other negatives of the Harley fix.

Harley fix wasn't even a band-aid; cheap workaround that would disable stator segments. If the stator tests good - output within range, pass the continuity test, a change of voltage regulator would be the first order of business in my opinion. The shunt regulator, because it has the VR at full output 100% of the time, exacerbates the lack of cooling oil to the stator; the series regulator handles stator output and heat at the stator much better, the tradeoff being the regulator will get hot, and that is much easier to resolve

That was my thought on the Harley fix. Batteries are much easier and cheaper to replace than stators.

I have an 09 1125R and had about 15,000 miles on it before the stator went out. I got the stator custom rewound and bought and EBR modified rotor with the oil jet and have not had any more issues. Its a pain of a job and not cheap, IF you can even get a modified rotor anymore. There is also an issue with the stock voltage regulators. I had a few overcharging issues and finally just swapped out the stock VR for a Honda Mosfett VR. It has worked like a charm for the last 10,000 miles.

SPHD has the rotors in stock that are EDMd for the cooling. Cost is $250 with a good core and you get a gasket and a new crank nut.

Well I am now the owner of an 1125CR!
Overall the bike looks great, minus a few areas but what can you really expect from a 10 year old bike. It does look like its been tipped over as the stator case cover has a scuff in it. One of the previous owners put the turn signals the front fairing above the headlight, interesting location but doesn't look bad.
