I just signed up as a member of this forum and am interested in purchasing a 2009 Buell 1125R. It has about 6000 km, (less than 4000 miles), on the clock and looks good, although it is definitely not showroom condition.
It looks like it may have tipped over on the kickstand side at some point, but the damage is almost non-existent. No scrapes on anything, and I could not find any broken plastic.... however, the radiator shroud plastic does not look like it fits together properly.
It may have been owned by someone who does a lot of burnouts because the back tire looks pretty shredded. The left fork seal has already failed and is leaking. The front brake rotor, while not worn out, does look contaminated. I am quite certain the current owner makes money by flipping vehicles... he claims to not have a motorcycle license, knows very little about motorcycles in general and the 1125R in particular.
It starts and runs great.
What should I be worried about on this motorcycle? Any recalls? Engine reliability, (can the engine take some abuse)? Serviceability? How about a source for parts and consumables? Are there aftermarket items like tuning kits and exhaust for the 1125R?

I purchased a 2008 from a third owner last year. It had 21,000 miles on it and I have already placed another 3,000 on it. I enjoy it greatly. I brought it to Harley Davidson to have them go through the bike; plus it created a paper trail. Nothing wrong with it at all. I had a full service completed; again for a paper trail. Only changes I made were:
1. EBR ECM - Tuned for my altitude and performance mods.
2. Barker Exhaust
3. KN Air Filter
4. Michelin Power Pilot 2 Tires
Runs like a champ. Minor common problems Charging system; common issue.
Fun bike and easy to work on. I highly recommend purchasing the bike. It is a head turner for people that know bikes.

2008 have less issues than the 2009, primarily because of the stator.
BUT that being said the 2008 had clutch weep issue that the 2009 didn't have.
I have both the 2008 and 2009. (2009 is for sale if anyone is interested). I ride the 2008 and it's been golden after the niggles were addressed. Still has a mediocre charging system. I have had to change batteries more than I would have liked, despite being kept on the tender.

I'm in the same boat. Looking at a 2008 that is very clean. I am a taller guy, and like the look and feel of the 1125R.
I've previously owned a 1999 M2 that I bought new, and a 2008 XB12XT Uly that replaced my Cyclone- I am familiar with the Buell owner's experience.
Just thinking at this point....

I will tell you that the 1125R with race ECM, Barker's exhaust and K/N air filter is incredible. Tons of linear power and great mechanical grip. I could buy a new motorcycle with all the new electronics and bells/whistles, but I stick with this relative dinosaur because it's just that good.
Oh yeah, the Buelltooth quickshifter is a new toy I added last year and it opens up even more fun...if you like to pretend you are on a racebike, banging thru the gears as fast as you dare. Full throttle upshifts. Just be a bit careful going from 2nd to 3rd. You might be startled if the front wheel comes up a bit the first few times. After that, it's just cool.

Not to hijack this thread, but I would like to know more about the QS, and your learning curve. I remember there was a thread that you (Fresnobuell) started regarding the QS. Could you update what you have learned about the QS,on that thread?

Just FYI. The left radiator shroud always fits a bit different than the right. The gap between the frame and the pod is wider on the left. It's normal

I had one of my 1125s out Saturday night, A BMW S1000RR parked behind me on the sidewalk outside the restaurant where we had dinner.
When I left, I couldnít resist grabbing a handful of throttle in first gear.
The bike stood nearly straight up before I backed off the throttle.
I lost all the skin off of my ass nearly two years ago, after grabbing more throttle than I thought in first gear, and unintentionally hitting second gear at high rpms. The windscreen hit me in the face, and knocked me off the bike.
This was on the first Ď08 1125R I bought, the one with the Power Commander V w/Autotune.
I also lost big patches of skin on the outside of both forearms, and some on both knees.
It took close to two months for the skin to grow back on my butt. When it finally closed, I went back to work on a repair I had been doing on my sisterís lawn tractor, something that required getting down on a creeper, and up and down a number of times.
It was extremely painful, but I wasnít bleeding, so I didnít give it any more thought than I had to.
Shortly after finishing the job, a swelling started in the sacral region of my low back. It continued to enlarge and got progressively more painful for the next three months.
After being told it was a massive chronic hematoma, and I needed either a general or a vascular surgeon to deal with it, I started looking.
No one in the area would touch it. The best anyone had to offer was ďIt will probably resorb on its own in a year or so...Ē
About the time I was seriously considering some self-inflicted brain damage, courtesy of a 45ACP, my dermatologist suggested a South African plastic surgeon in town who had extensive wound care experience.
I called him on a Monday morning, saw him that morning, was sent to the ER, admitted to the hospital, and he drained a liter of fluid out of it the next morning.
He left a drain in it for six weeks, and it continued to drain for most of that time. When he took the drain out though, it did not inflate again.
The skin that had sheared loose from the underlying layer had reattached.
I still have pain from it. I got corti-steroid injections in both sacro-iliac joints last year that helped a lot.
Itís about time for more.
As a result, I taught myself to cover the rear brake pedal before grabbing a bunch of throttle.
Point is respect the power of the 1125. Somewhere over 5000 rpms, depending on the tune and throttle opening, you will probably get a surge of power many have never experienced, and it can hurt you.
I thought I was doing it right...working my way up to higher and higher power settings in different situations.
But one evening, I was out for a short test ride, with no protective gear, and I screwed up.
Iím still paying for it.

Good lord. And you still pull a wheelie after all that. Short of the odd power wheelies, both my tires stay on the ground. The consequences of going down are severe and I refuse to increase my odds by wheeling. Wheelies are hard on the bike and hard on the body when it goes wrong.

I have to admit I am riding the big inch Dyna more these days. The way itís balanced, I just smoke the rear tire, with only a little front wheel rise when simply cracking the quarter turn throttle from a rolling start.
We did a dyno pull on it shortly after I got it with the Thunderheader exhaust.
It made 129.6 HP and 144 ft-lbs of torque.
I bought and installed a D&D Boarzilla and ran it again.
144.1 HP and 149 ft-lbs of torque.
I need a bigger back tire.
PS I am a confirmed adrenaline junkie.
