After being out of the fold for the past 7 years, I recently got the bug for another Buell. I've owned an 03 XB9S, an 05 XB9S, an 06 Uly, and an 09 1125R that I picked up at the fire sale in 2009. I've been around the block enough times to know that Buells need commitment.

Provided I decide to scratch this itch, how has the parts/support scene fared over the past few years? I'm well aware of what happened with Buell and EBR. But how does that translate into the ownership? Can we still get parts from HD? Are there any major shortages?

I didn't own my 1125R for long enough to have the charging system or clutch seepage issues. Are they still a problem? Is there anything else I need to be aware of?

I don't mind a project from time to time and I can be resourceful, but I don't want to buy a pile that I can't support...

I am getting the feeling more parts are becoming obsolete. But I just ride my 1125R and have been lucky enough to not have any serious mechanical issues....maybe I am just lucky?

Personally, if you are concerned about long term support and parts I would steer clear of Buells. I don't think HD is legally obligated to provide parts anymore for our bikes????

The 1125's make me more nervous than the XB's. That might be a mistake on my part, but I've put more miles on them and they are pretty robust. But still...if I need a front rotor, a drive belt, or something obviously specific to a Buell, I'd like to know I'm not high and dry.

I run my own small moto business and also ride/maintain a Ducati. As cantankerous as Ducatis can be, I can always get parts...

I've never had an issue. Even getting weird parts.

FYI, the rotor is the same as all the XB's and the belt has no replacement schedule.

No issues on the rotors? I cooked one on my XB at the racetrack. Swapped it out to the finned EBR unit which fixed the issue...

I've never lost a belt, but I know people who have. I like having a spare on hand.

Looks like you just answered both of your own questions.

What color you gonna get?

Maybe Lance651 can chime in on the parts question/situation as he sees it. He works at a dealership and frequents this board.

I'm really torn. I've never owned a Firebolt or a CR...but they all work for me. Except for the Uly. I have a Multistrada 1200 that does that job (and more).

I made a call to St. Paul HD-Buell yesterday and spoke with a parts guy. His opinion was that this is a non-issue on these 'newer' bikes. Sounds like some of the body parts are hard to come by, but they either have stock of the common parts or availability through HD. For how long...who knows.

I'm in the same boat. Have been out of the buell scene for some time but want another. Was looking for an XB but the 1125 prices are the same and you get so much more! I think I might pull the trigger on a black one locally for $3k. New $12k super bikes depreciate that much in their first year. If the bike has a major failure then so be it. Right?

I have owned every kind of Buell.

IMO an 1125 isn't "more" of a bike than an XB. HP alone doesn't tell the story.

They are both wonderful bikes, awesome for the job they were built for, and vastly different machines.

I like both and can see myself owning either. Though truthfully, I'd probably opt for a EBR 1190 over an 1125...

I miss my XB. As less than ideal they are on the track, they work pretty damn well on the street. All with a character that cannot be mistaken!

Are the 1125's and the XB's built on the same frame?

No. The bike's are completely different except for the wheels, rotor, etc.

Airbox lid and tail section plastics cross over to XB-R, too. And footpegs match the Ulysses mounts.

I currently have the XB9S (03) and 1125R (08) and love em both! But as was stated they are two different beasts that have two completely different personalities! I love my XB for getting around in town quickly, and the 1125R for fast highway jaunts!

So, I never updated this thread...

I picked up a 2009 XB12R last weekend with 11k miles on the clock. The bike is mechanically sound, but is in need of a battery. The plastics have some heavy scuffs on them, from what I can tell might be a tip over or very low speed slide. Either way, the damage is minimal and will be easily fixable with new plastics or a paint job.

I forgot how much torque these engines made right off idle!

I'm going to keep my eye open for another bike...either an XB9R or an 1125R that I can use for track duty.
