Going out on a limb and admitting I don't some stuff:
1. What does it mean when my tachometer needle (sometimes) flashes bright red when I blip the throttle?

2. When servicing my bike, under what circumstances would I need to use the camshaft
locking tool?

Rev limiter lights up when in neutral at 5-6k rpm I think. Closer to 11k when in gear. Basically it's telling you not to do it.

Cam lock tool is for when you need to re-time the cams and keep things from shifting/moving around as you deal with the chain.

I think the rev limiter also lights up if you exceed 5-6K rpm and the coolant is not up to operating temperature, again saying do not do that.

Rev Limiter light?

I notice the needle go red on its initial sweep when turning the bike on... but when riding & getting near redline my eyes are not on that needle : )

5 to 6 K?! What? I'm no squid teen revving my engine at the light. I baby this motor, and to think I'm bumping into the rev limiter as it's sitting in my driveway. (smacks forehead)

Yep, the rev limiter on the tach needle sounded cool in the sale brochure, but it's useless. I don't ride at night, so I can't say if it might be more noticeable? Anytime I am rowing thru the gears in "tach light illumination" range, my attention is focused on not crashing.

A big bright ass light on the top of the cluster is the best. Duh.

That's my mantra. This bike may have its quirkiness (hey it's a Buell!) but the 1125 motor and race ECM is just tremendous. IMHO, of course.
