When bike is cold it goes through a cycle of voltage error when it clears up it is charging at 17 + volts then slowly drops to normal any body know why

Voltage regulator is likely going out.

Verify correct stator voltages first.

have to agree with Terry...check the big grey connector with the yellow wires....this post may help (scroll down for pix)

the design uses the rear sub frame for a heat sink for the VR...it has to be tight

you are aware of the issues of the stator failures on '09s?
