I have an R front fairing with deep gouges and holes where someone had mounted lights of some sort. I have the DuPont recommended procedures for painting the material, but haven't found anything on repairing it. Does anyone know of a filler material that will bond to the Surlyn? 3M makes flexible fillers for use with other plastics, such as bumper moldings on cars. Anyone tried it or anything similar? |

No help here, John. I have sanded out some pretty deep gouges on a side pod. It was starting to look pretty good when the new replacement showed up... Possibly a plastic welder with a sacrificial part as filler? Z |

Thanks Z. I've considered that. If no other options arise, I'll probably give it a shot. |

For small stuff the Plastic epoxy from your local auto parts store works great. Just make sure to mar up the surface and give it some gouges to grip into. For the larger stuff,I formed abs to the shape I needed and the melted the edges of both materials, take some wire mesh overlapping at least 1/4 in at all points, and press it into both materials about 20-40% of the way through. Even it out while its still hot with a flat edge and then sand/paint. |
