What is the purpose of the gear temp For? And what does it reads?

What you're looking at is two separate pieces of information: the first line is "GEAR" and shows which transmission gear you're in (1–6), the second line shows your ambient temperature as measured at the engine air intake horn.

Pressing the "MODE" button will cycle through all the information screens each time you press:
Battery Voltage and Coolant Temperature (CT)
Instrument Cluster Screen Brightness setting (0–5) (pressing and holding "MODE" here will cycle through all the brightness settings, let go of "MODE" when you get the one you like)
Average Miles Per Gallon
Instant Miles Per Gallon
then it goes back to the GEAR / TEMP screen.
