So i have an 1125R basically a nice race setup i bought recently. I have a actual Buell Programmable race ecm and i have a bunch of tunes from the previous owner. And some new ones to try.

Only Issue is I cant figure out the PCM tool i cant seem to get it to work. I have no idea how to load in the tunes that i know have been tested on this bike and i have dyno sheets for. I cant even get it to open a project file.

Did he give you the USB dongle? The software will not work without it.

If that is the EBR only software it should have a software key usb dongle that plugs into your computer to allow the software to work. It prevents pirating of the software.

It is not the cable going from the bike to pc.

You can use ECMRead software to write to the ECM if you don't have the usb dongle.

Hi Terry, what version of PCM have you used that requires the use of a software security dongle?

Maybe I'm thinking of a different software.

How has EBR prevented the PCM software from being widespread for free or is it?

The old O hi o. S p o r t. B I k e. programmer required the dongle. I had that before the ebr stuff came out.

I bought the programmable ecm in 2010. The dongle looks like this:

dongle

It came with version 2.3.1.1 of IDS's PCM Tool.

I have never had a PCM software with a security dongle. The dongle in the above picture should be a data converter (TTL/RS232). My ECM Spy cables (that have the same data converter) always worked with the PCM software. The full programmable ECUs are protected by a Module ID and Key combination that come with the module. When PCM software gets first contact to the ECU a window pops up asking for the Module ID and Key. At least it used to be like that in the past.
The software using a USB security dongle was Direct Link from Technoresearch.

See my third post in this thread for info on how to read and write tunes to the ECU as well as how to modify tunes. All that's required that costs money is the USB cable--the two software programs are (or at least were, last time I checked) free.
