Author Message   Coastrambler Posted on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 - 01:43 am:        About 2 weeks ago my tach went off the deep end. More accurately it went off the high end. It went almost all the way around to the zero mark. At idle it might read 11K, it varies. Prior to first start of the day it'll read anywhere from 4 to 8K. After POST sweep it'll settle at correct idle RPM. As I ride out it gets to where I'm showing 10K doing 65mph in 4th gear. And it'll climb past top numbers into blocking the speed panel. I tried disconnecting the battery. It got a good result on first start, then back to bad. Gear indicator works properly, so rpm info is getting to cluster correctly. I had something similar with mine. I disassembled the cluster (carefully) and glued the needle in place. I note in the photos of the IC interior there are locking fingers (white plastic) holding the PC board in. Popping them back will get the guts out. Will give it a try this weekend. It hasn't thrown any codes. You'll just have to pull the white housing/PCB assembly out of the front outer shell. If you have any questions just shoot me a PM. When mine slipped it worked normally but just had a bad offset position. Yours seems much more erratic. Have you checked for bad grounds? Maybe the ground that attaches right by the steering head is loose? Probably worth looking at before you tear the IC apart. HTH Bill
