Well I began my tear down a few weeks ago since I have a pretty sizable list this year. Since I don't have to do a valve check this year, and it gets to be all fun stuff, I decided to do a build thread that I will update with pics and progress as the winter goes on.

Here is a list of what I have planned, I have almost all of the parts already so it should go pretty smoothly.

1) Rebuild forks with Racetech valves and springs for my weight.
2) Upgrade Rear Shock, I haven't bought this yet but I am leaning towards an Elka Stage 4.
3) Replace thermistor on fuel pump.
4) Install Motion Pro Revolver 2 Throttle with new right side switch assembly.
5) Replace right side pod cover that was scratched in driveway tip over.

Thats the bulk of it but there are a few little things that I will do also, as you can see most of the mods are performance related. I sold my track bike 2 years ago but the trackday itch is back so I am doing all of this in preparation of thaking the 1125r out a couple of times next year.

Hopefully this turns out good and maybe some more people will do build threads to keep us all sane over the long cold winter.

First on the list is one that I have been wanting to do for a few years now but never got around to since Motion Pro doesn't make a kit for the 1125r. I had to take some measurements of the throttle cable while they were still on the bike and then send the whole throttle assembly and cables in so that they could make some custom cables for me.





I still need to run the cables to the throttle body and I also need to wire the right side switch up but I couldn't wait to at least put them on to see how it looked. I did a quick mock up of it last night and it looks awesome.

The CR went to gpsuspension.com 1st.

When I got my 96s1 in 97 I went the gold valve route and 1.0 fork springs from racetech. When I started hanging with the local track racers I learned about gpsuspension.com. That was in 1998. I knew what a gold valve was, a hunk of brass. The sportbike magazines and riders were endorsing all singing praises. The gpsuspension valving is designed by a mechanical engineer. They use higher grade alloys because it cuts easier in the cnc machinery. The valves are then anodized for hardness. compared to brass and way more durable.

I know RaceTech is not the best out there but its a good bang for the buck, I have had good experiences with RT stuff in the past and it works with my budget and my Intermediate skill level at the track.

...I'm guessing he makes them out of brass to help "tool life" in his CNC mills...then he bonds them together...I disassemble mine from RT and by hand use some fine emery paper/cloth to smooth and polish the "ports"...also check for "flatness" of the sealing surfaces on a piece of glass...if need be "lap" the surface on a piece of fine emery or crocus cloth taped to a flat surface or piece of glass to get them flat and seal against the "washers/shims"...hope this helps

Well, I got the throttle and switch all wired up.

Had a slight issue with the throttle cables, I didn't take into account that the are now above the bars instead of below, so the run to the throttle bodies is longer. I have Apex riser Clip-Ons, so luckily I had CR high bar cables on the bike when I took the measurements and they were long to begin with, so now I have the cables run pretty much the same way as they were from the factory and they are a perfect length. Also the return cable is a little long(the actual cable not the whole assembly) so I had to use pretty much all the adjustment to on that one to make it snug.

Overall I am very happy, it's a very high quality kit and changing out the cams is super easy...maybe 2 minutes max.

If anyone else decides to get one in the future I would recommend getting your cable made 2-3 inches longer unless you already have extra slack in your cables like I did.

Yeah theirs is around $1100, Elka street price is just under $800 with High/Low speed Compression, Rebound and Ride Height. Seems like a good bang for the buck. Still haven't 100% decided on the Elka but I am pretty close to pulling the trigger on it.

Well I am slowly moving along, been busy the last few weeks so not as much progress as I had hoped.

One thing that I did not list is to replace my Steering Head Bearings, I had order some tapered bearings from All Balls Racing but the do not fit even though they are shown as compatible. After talking with their support it seems that they do not make a set that fits our bikes even though their site lists it. So I am waiting on some OEM bearings to arrive.

I did get one of the forks almost completely stripped last night but am having a hell of a time with the Oil seal. Its a different design then the XB's and you need a seal puller to get it out so I am stopping at Harbor Freight today to grab one.

i have no idea how you managed to pull the transmission and t-case in the picture out of your 1125. Whoever had it apart before you did something terribly wrong.

Haha...yeah the Transmission and T-case are from a CJ restoration that has been put off to the side for way too long.

is the aftermarket top triple tree just to accommodate the clip-ons? more negative angle?

Yeah its so I can run Clip-ons...but they are Apex Riser Clip-Ons. They allow me to put the bars up and back and are infinitely adjustable.

You may also consider the Penske double clicker. Great shock and the service is first rate. You can call and talk to a real person. I have mine there for rebuilds and installation of AMA valving. They were very upfront on bang for my buck mods. Their prices are in line with others and are made in the USA.

Well, I am starting to button everything back up. Forks have have been rebuilt with Racetch Gold valves and 1.1 kg/mm springs. Also replaced the fuel level sensor on the fuel pump. I am also going to clean up some of the wiring on the PCV and Autotune and get them mounted in a better location, but I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel just in time for spring.
