What does it sound like when your chain tensioners or chain guides start to go. I did my stator a few months back, used the correct loctite and cranked it down to the correct specs, so I don't think it's that. It sounds like its coming from the front of the motor closer to the head. on the left side.

a) chk your drain plug for metal....
b) gotta pull the exhaust to chk the sump for plastic (from the guides)...
you have '09...I have an early '08...this is what I found in my engine:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/636663.html

I noticed two conditions:
1)extra noise coming from the left side
2)engine temp went up a few degrees

pulled my drain plug and it looked like the one in the link...I'm back to running and riding ...but it wasn't an easy fix...I didn't rotate the engine...fixed it as shown in the link

What is considered excessive wear? I gather the tensioners are hydraulic.

Here is a video I did and it was my chain tensioners. It's the rhythmic clicking that comes and goes.
