So, with that said, as I start surfing around looking for bikes, are there any major differences between the different production years that I ought to concern myself with?

Thanks in advance,

CM

2008 has a lower alternator output, and is only available as the R
9-10 have the R & Cr variants, and the known alternator problem, all can have clutch slave cylinder issues, or brake, or cam chain issues depending on use and care. the 08 can be distinguished by its blue frame

good luck..

No major difference between model years as far as power or ridability. The 08's had the first run of stators in them that have proven...less difficult. But they also have the first run of clutch actuators and covers which have been known to leak or "weep" if not upgraded to EBR parts. The 08's were also slightly more prone to ignition switch failures, but from experience that is a very easy fix.

The 09's-10's had the upgraded stators in them, but were known to fail unless the bike was kept running at high (5k+) rpms. Some people have never had issues with them, while others have had multiple failures. The "proven" fix is a rewound stator and upgraded EBR rotor. Depending on production time (late 09 specifically) the clutch weep may have been fixed from the factory.

The R model was the only 1125 produced in 08 so if you are planning on a CR you will be looking at 09-10 as both R and CR were produced then.

Other than that there is nothing else I can think of off the top of my head. Just call any HD dealership with the VIN prior to purchase to check and make sure recalls are up to date

GREAT choice on bike my friend. I love mine. And welcome to the 1125 side of BadWeb!

2010's have the highly regarded oil level sight glass in the engine case.

Don't forget, the CR's have an 8% lower gearing at the rear sprocket (Larger rear belt sprocket, and a slightly different swing arm.) which translates into quicker acceleration and a slightly lower top speed.
To me this is the most important difference between the R and CR but make's the CR more fun to ride.

Hirpms has a nice '09 CR listed if you sell your ULY and are interested. Listed in the classified section.
