well guys this is two buells in a row I have wrapped around a tree.... Luckily the entire front end stayed perfect, the headlight fairing and all the front didn't have a scratch, I have no idea how though. So I have decided to rebuild from the ashes. I have decided to rebuild it into a cr.is there anyone who would like to trade my r front for your cr front.

I swear trees are plotting against me. mid corner there was a massive patch of gravel all the way across the lane, there was no way to avoid it a oopsies.

the road has a tree canopy so the gravel was in the shade until I got close and by that point there was no saving it. I have bad luck with motorcycles I swear something is always going wrong.

Crashing is no fun. I had my first serious off almost nine months to the day. Ended up going over the handlebars which resulted in a separated shoulder and fractured elbow (landed and plugged directly on my left shoulder blade and elbow.) I still have some range of motion issues with the elbow. Sounds like yours was a lowside, which is fortunate.

Note for everyone: gear up for the fall as you don't have a choice when it will happen. I had some modest gear on when i crashed--mesh riding jacket, kevlar lined jeans & short cuff gloves. Have upgraded to an Astars perforated leather jacket with Forcefield CE-2 back insert, Astar SMx-1 riding boots, Spidi High Viz vest. Fortunately, at this point in my life I am able to splurge a little bit on protective gear, besides the cost of gear is nothing compared to medical and PT bills. I really love riding and I am not quitting, so from this point forward I am taking every precaution to avoid future injuries.

I feel like the mesh jacket and rough road surface were not a good combo and didn't allow for any sliding to dissipate energy (I plugged into the road and all the energy was directed into my body.) That's why I will use a leather jacket from this point forward...hoping it will not grab the road like my mesh jacket did. YMMV on this one, but this was my conclusion.

To the OP--don't worry about the machinery, if you came out relatively healthy you should consider yourself a lucky fellow.

Mrsuperbuckets ~ I won't wear sunglasses for that very reason! My eyes do not adjust fast enough from having the sun in my eyes to a well shaded tree canopy.
Your advise on gear woke me up a little. I have been using a mesh jacket for the last few years. Slideability is an interesting idea, perhaps strategically located teflon patches on top of this?

As for mesh jackets check out the one from ICON when i went down back in may i slid pretty good and it did its job of protecting me. My only gripe with the jacket i was thinking there should be some sort of shock absorbing gel with the heavy duty armor.

I think it has alot to do with the road surface. If it's a smoother surface obviously the chance of sliding are better. Probably the "launch and landing angle" of the body also has a bearing on it as well as a lowside will slide better than a high side.

Theres a chance a leather jacket wouldn't have made a difference in my specific incident as the surface was rather rough and I went over the handlebars and straight down....

Live and learn as they say and the only thing worse than crashing would be not learning from the accident in terms of how the protective gear performed (or didn't perform IMHO.)

Textile jackets are great and certainly more comfy than a leather jacket in the summer (and better than no gear without a shadow of a doubt.) Again, YMMV.
