If you still have the factory battery, more than likely it's shot.

I just replaced mine. It lasted 6 years.

ya voltage checks out on the battery. I finally took the cover off and there are metal shavings around the rotor too. This goes back too a thread I had started a couple weeks ago about metal in the trap door screen. It's even nastier on a couple of other failed filmed attempts. I don't like the metal shavings and I need to source them.

Good god, man.

Instead of thumbing the button for less than half a revolution, try holding it until the engine catches.

When I hold it for more than a revolution it gets nasty sounding and clanks too a stop. Trust me if you were standing there you would not hold that starter too long either for fear of what it's tearing up

I don't know how old your '08 is ...mine was an early model...the heat treating on the balance gear was bad...the cam chain sprocket that drives the rear cylinder also drives the balance gear...metal in my oil...here's an old post with pictures...the bike will start and run, but produces shrapnel as it grinds the gears teeth off...gotta pull the rotor off to see it

ordered a nut and gasket and need to find a crank lock tool now. This sucks because I just installed the e b r race ecm and rt3 yesterday. That night I get her up on the stands and pulled the ignition cover off. I just want my bike to not have issues. She is spoiled for sure. I just hope after this not much else goes wrong for a long while. I love the buell but geesh.
