Has any one experienced random back fires while riding?

accel or decel more common?

I know with some aftermarket pipes (stock ECM or EBR ECM?), on decel they can pop a bit.

Checking the seal from headers to pipe i've heard can help - seal them up a bit and it may help if that's your issue?

TPM reset help? I can look in the service manual for troubleshooting if you've tried the above already.

The last and worst was on accel, it felt like a sledge hammer hit the air box,

I plan on insulating the frame later this year, with some other mods...

Bike is bone stock, no tuning // mods beyond saddle bags, engine has been serviced by me and dealer at different times but only repairs adjustments.

I know of two things that will cause that behavior, electrical or plug! Was you going over a bump, long ride, shitting and getting?

just thinking out loud - performance is good - no running issues or performance decrease noted? Just a random backfire?

Just suddenly start doing this or slowly getting worse doing this?

I'll look in Service Manual to see what they recommend for troubleshooting.

here's the engine troubleshooting pages i think may help further diagnose:

Looking at Runs Irregularly or Misses - And Pre-Ignition or Detonation. I'd try to check and rule out as many of those as possible.

clean sensors, reseat connectors, clean plugs, clean injectors (gas additives), dry gas (again - gas additives).

A bit of a shotgun approach, but i'd work my way through until it improved.

Valve timing and ignition timing would be my biggest concern and likely out of my skillset to fix... Fingers crossed it's something simple!
