Just installed LEDs in my low beams, very easy plug and play, very white lights. 25 watts each, 1800 lumens. I will see tonight how they do. If they do well I plan to replace the HID hi beams also. | ||

Ive read stories of head light housings melting with these. Might want to make sure there is plenty of clearence. | ||

I have been installing led's for over a year now. I haven't come across a headlight melting. Hid's in smaller housings you might have a problem. When we first started using these I parked a 2012 Camry, put a charger on it and left the lights on for about an hour. We didn't even put the fans on it to see how warm the would get. You could still touch them with your hands with out a problem. You can try them with a battery and bench test them to see how warm they get. I haven't tried the ones that are just the bulbs. The LED's don't get hot. The POWER SUPPLIES get hot. You'll note, most high-power LED luminaires have externally mounted power supplies. | ||

Do these suffer from the same fate as direct-replacement HID bulbs, that being a largely-destroyed beam pattern with lots of glare? | ||

It has the same hardware as a hid(see the ebay link in 4th post) and yes the pattern will suffer because the led is only two side and not 360 degree. | ||

I put HID in my Honda 919 several years ago after a close encounter with a deer.. I installed them in both low and high beams in my R model about a year ago and they are fantastic, with all four of them lit its like daylight out front of the bike..I wouldn't want to ever go back to the stock lighting... I then decided to try them in my CR but didn't like the way they worked in it.. It just wasn't as effective as the Honda or the R model but then I never have liked the one bulb low beam anyway, makes the bike look unbalanced in my opinion, so I could have been somewhat biased from the start... I have worked with LED lighting for years and have an idea I want to try on the CR.. If it works it should be just as effective as the HID in the R model... My primary goal is to see and be seen all while using the least amount of power possible to do it.. HID or LED whichever one accomplishes that works for me... | ||

I have an older Bike with HID ( X1 ) interesting that reflector and front are glass with the mirroring on the bulb side. I THINK that the HID MIGHT damage the reflective coating, as there is a large strip above the lamp ( possibly heat? ) ALSO be aware that there were issues with the Firebolt due to the Reflectors failing, there has been one case pointed out, for the 1125R (with hid), these lenses & reflectors are plastic, I love the HID light out put but between potential heat and UV issues I would hesitate to put in HID lamps on my R, if LED lamps and related items can be made to provide equal light at lower wattage and no UV/Heat issues that sounds like a win win. | ||

So far I love them, great output, very white light, little scatter. Will post pictures this weekend. Ordered another pair for the brights. I really like the instant on of LEDs, no ignition and no relay for the low beam side. I have HIDs on my xb and I might switch to LEDs when the bulbs start to go. | ||

That depth of projection is not nearly deep enough for riding much above 5-1omph it looks like.  In the MSF course they teach you not to out ride your light at night. That looks like it would be very easy to do with this setup, or is the picture not representative of the true depth? | ||

I have had 35W HID for Loretta's lo-beams since July 08. No reflector or lens degradation but I think the output is a little less than when new. No timer just plugged in to the OEM harness. Also still original battery/alt/ R-R; 28.4k miles. Zack | ||

I had HID’s in mine. Loved the light output, but the setup was a PITA and didn’t seem to be doing my electrical system any favors. Pulled it out after a couple months. I’m glad to see this. | ||

Was excited until I saw the ballasts (just like HID's as others mentioned). I've had the DDM 55w HID's in my bike since about a month or two old. Same bulbs, and no issues. Got the 3k color temp and love the yellow tint light in rain, fog, and all around great visibility. 1800 lumens i think they claimed. My HID's claim 5000 ea i believe? Claims in marketing are to be taken with a large grain of salt... but the output on the DDM's is outstanding. I actually think the higher draw helped my charging system. It gave the stator somewhere to route the juice instead of having extra power dumped as heat. That's my opinion, but my first stator lasted 12k, and otherwise pretty much stock (a couple added LED's here and there for blinkers and XB lights brake light). I too would like to see the beam against the garage. my HID's do have some scatter and a love/hate thing for me. I know it can be an issue, especially at night for other drivers. During the day it's actually really helpful if you are in the blindspot or passing a car - that bit of side light scatter definitely adds visibility. I like not being run over, and i know i'm justifying... but hey every bit of cager awareness helps. |
