Had a failure to start last Wednesday. All normal with key on, hit start switch and nothing happened. Found the starting relay bad. It's between the start button and the starter relay. I used the auxilery relay. There are 4 relays in a box under the body piece, between the seats. Lovely to get at. Now I get CEL. Don't know why yet.

Check the wiring at the bottom of your ignition switch. These are known to break. You might have to disassemble the bottom of the switch.

Runs and starts fine now. Problem was definately the relay. Now I've got to figure why CEL comes on. Am wondering if fueling got confused when trying to start.

Pull up diagnostic mode and see what codes you threw...

Good thinking on the diag thing. Thx, will do. How do I clear the CEL? It goes off on starting sequence. Comes on about 10 seconds after starting.

It's amazing what you can learn if you read. This morning I actually watched the display panel as the bike did its POST (power on, self test). It clearly read AUX PWR Fail, SYS something. I put the new relay in that I'd purchased last night. No CEL. Relay was $5.48 w/tax. Made in Italy, and it's a stock HD part.
