My dad and I headed out to Thunderhill raceway for our first track day yesterday. My dad rode my X1 and I rode the 1125. It took a couple weeks to get the bikes into shape.

The X1 got racetech internals and springs, a NOS rear shock, the CR headlight, a new wiring harness, new front isolator, front pads and rotor, some powdercoating to the forks and seat ring, fresh, fluids, and Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tires.

The 1125 got engine sliders from EBR, upgraded rotor hardware from EBR, front OEM brake pads, Dunlop Q3's, and fresh fluids. I switched to the RBF600 for the track day.

To prepare for the trip I read Twist of the Wrist 2 again and watched the video on youtube. I also turned my dad on to the book and video. He has ridden Harleys for 35 years, so even though he knows how to ride his FXR like a bat outta hell in the twisties, a sportbike is a little different.

Here is my first touchdown in turn 6.

Here is dad in the same turn.

Here is my second touchdown in turn 10.

Here is dad in the same turn.

Here I am coming into turn 9.

Here is another one of dad.

My dad got help all day from one of the instructors to help get around some of the habits from Harley riding. Not riding on the balls of his feet and getting crossed up while turning were some of his problems. He ground off a large chunk of his boot from sitting on his heels.

I took lessons from the class and didn't ask for much help from the instructors. I wanted to get to know the track and learn what my reference points were before I really got in depth with an instructor. I did get some advice from the instructor that was helping dad. He helped me out with some body positioning and braking advice. Next time we go I will spend every session with an instructor if I can.

I did drag a knee twice and the photographer got both pics! That was really exciting. We can't wait for the next track day. My dad is already talking about buying a cheap track bike.
