I know I know, not another oil question. I am getting ready to fire up my 1125 after the rotor swap. I was running the motul synth in the bike previously. The nearest dealer only has 10 40w. Is the HD screaming eagle synthetic something that would be ok with doing some track time? I had used motul and golden spectro full synth on my track bikes previously and would stick to that. I can order or do some traveling to get some if need be but there is a HD dealer nearby and am itching to fire up the bike so I can hear my new exhaust : )

The HD oil is ok just change it more often.

You know, Amazon has Motul 300v and it shows up in 2 days.

thanks for the heads up. Just ordered 2 gallon jugs with no tax and no shipping. Was cheaper than what was on Af1 too.

The Motul stuff is fantastic, but pricey. Smells like bananas, too. So nice.

The rotella up here is up to 27 dollars a gallon, I use it in my triumph and aprilia before that but will use the better oils if I am going to do track days with the bike.

How long will most synthetic oils last? If you don't ride much in miles per year should you change it once a year?

Well I like the Rotella T6. It's got a $5 rebate right now, which brings it down into the low $20's

It's designed for heavy duty diesels, and is exempt from all the additive crap that auto oils have to have.

For me, I feel it's great oil for all use. Lot's of motorcyclists feel the same. That said, we could do the oil arguments forever, but at least this stuff is available at Walmart and Pep Boys

I am a fan of rotella as well, I have 4 containers on my shelf, I just feel better using the motul on my track bikes. I used it for 60k on my priller and my GT is at 31k and has used rotella, except for the dealer services.

I find the question isn't the oil's life, it's the stuff dumped in the oil by the clutch and other moving parts in the bike.

You should always change the oil at least annually. Honestly, you can't go wrong changing the oil frequently.

i know there's tons of acceptable & exceedingly good choices

But is it close to correct that amsoil is the top of the line?

i'd hate to have an engine 'event' and think that i skimped on effin' motor oil

(I swear - not a troll; please, no oil wars)
: )

Amsoil would be one of several very good choices, yes.

Changing it often would make a bigger difference, regardless of the brand you choose.

Mobil 1 15-50 for 40,000+ miles now.

Same oil used in my XB9SX which has 60,000+ miles.

That's a good one, I use it in my BMW R-series bikes all the time, also used in Buell XB, but in 1125 I decided to use Mobil 1 V-twin. Good results so far. Recently changed oil and was pretty dark after 5k miles. I think 1125 is pretty hard on oil.
