I've got an '09 R with 27k on the clock; no idea if a valve service was ever performed. I'm going to have it done professionally, but I was just curious what your findings were with your inspections. I have no reason to suspect they're out of spec, but I'm going to do it anyway. Just curious what you guys have found, are they usually out of spec or do they stay true for a while? My last bike was a busa and I've heard stories of people that were still in spec after 60k miles. |

At 27k it's likely valve lash is out of spec (on the tight side), and it's time to reshim, particularly if it hasn't been done yet. Probably a good idea to check - post up what you find out. |

According to the HD tech in my area they rarely go out of spec. He also went to the 1125r school when they came out. He said he has seen 30k miles on one and it was still good to go. I'll tell you what he told me: I recommend checking it, but I doubt its very far off. (Message edited by brokengq on April 14, 2014) |

The first one I did was out of spec. The 2nd was slightly out. The 3rd was on the verge or getting out. |

I just finished my valve check at the first recommended interval of 12,500 miles. All my exhaust valves were out of spec. by two or three thousands of an inch too tight. The intake valves were right on the edge of spec. (tight) except one which was one thousandth of an inch out of spec. too tight. |
