Have a read on the article and follow up on the discussion below it. Wow, some really non informed people out there on Erik. Thought it would be an interesting read. http://rideapart.com/2014/01/lotus-c-01-motorcycle -look-200-hp-v-twin/

The 'Lotus' bike has always been stated as using a KTM RC8R engine ever since it was announced a few months ago. Personally I think the whole bike is horrific and a complete waste of a decent engine and a travesty for the Lotus name. The sad fact is that the people making it actually own Kalex, so they do actually know how to make a sporstbike frame work.
The Lotus is just another rich mans garage ornament and certainly won't bother any of the leading sportsbikes thats for sure.

Bar end mirrors, but no kickstand, headlight or signals: Is it supposed to be street-legal? Edit: on a few of the right side shots, there appears to be a kickstand, but I don't see it on any of the left side photos.

Lots of rake, and virtually no aero's for the poor sap that is supposed to ride this at 100 mph+: Is it supposed to be a Super(i.e.; RACE)bike?

For what it is (an art piece, IMO), I like the lines. Me thinks it's more Form than Function, though.... certainly not a superbike. As an art piece maybe, but I don't have that kind of money to waste.

The only thing that appealed to me was the V-twin. I was really curious to know whose they were going to use. Form over function, I agree. No price tag shown as yet, as only those inhabiting the vicinity of Dubai are going to be able to afford it. Like most things of this nature, it will make more of a conversation piece than anything.

My take on this bike was as a "power cruiser" not unlike the Diavel. A focus on design, wonderful aesthetic appeal, impressive motor performance, but mostly form over function.

It's probably a great street bike to cruise around on, hit the gas once a while, and chuckle with a big grin. But, mostly ride the speed limit.

And hope you don't have to go round any corners : ( if you look closely you'll see that the bars would hit the 'fairing' (I use the term as loosely as possible) if you try to turn them at all!
maybe the bike is supplied with a liveried servant who picks the bike up and turns it around for you when you stop at the end of your private drag strip in the desert.
