So with all the hoop-la about my forks, you know, one being revA and the other being revB I come across this in the new owners section. Different data screens, new ones flash COLD until Op-Temp is reached. Old ones show the temperature flashing until Op-Temp then steady. My production date on the stem says Jan. 08. But my IC has the mid 08 stuff on it. I kind of wonder what has gone on in her past? | ||

The COLD message is a function of the ECM not the cluster. The ECM tells the cluster when to display the COLD message. What Zac must have been mistaken was how later bikes had different ECM calibrations as the factory released updates to fix fueling and other issues. | ||

So then an updated flash would tell the ic what to display? So, I could in theory, I repeat in theory,could have my display welcome me with message of, "keep your eyes on the road"? I think what I gather then is that the early ic was only capable of that message because that's what the computer told it to display? The fork comment was to try and connect some dots. With the forks on my bike being different rev's and then the comment about ic clusters I was starting to try and piece a possible wrecked bike together in my mind from some po in the past. I will never know why those damn forks are different I guess. | ||

No, the ECM has a setting which tells the cluster to display the COLD message. On stock bikes after one of the early ECM flashes, they enabled the COLD message to come on till 150°F, and many Race ECMs have it set to only display the message below 32°F. Regarding your forks, I saw your thread, the reason you have two different ones was because one was replaced. As to why it was replaced would be difficult to say, I would try and contact the previous owner and also the servicing dealer to see if they have any records. While it could be replacement for crash damage, it is also possible one fork was defective and replaced under warranty. Personally I would just replace the other fork assembly so they are both Rev B, it is about $300 new, but you might have luck finding a matched pair online, maybe Ronin still has some | ||

I already contacted Harley and its not like Toyota or where ever; they can't look in a national database for maintenance done on it. But they did tell me that the recalls had been done it. Which is weird and frustrating because they should get with the program and share info. I can only contact one of the last few po's. But anyway, revA and revB fork lowers are the same. I made a mistake when measuring and didn't account for the pinch bolts. So I put the axle in and voila. I also orderesd new springs. No need for the whole fork as long as the cartridge is still the same between the two. | ||

they can't look in a national database for maintenance done on it There is some kind of database, it might just depend on which dealer. I bought my bike in Detroit, and the dealer in South Bend that I took it to was able to look up all of the records. |
