The only time I've ever changed the pads was when I broke that little wire hanger. I had to change the caliper itself once when the little wire wore through the caliper hanger pin. Outside of that, it just sits there adding useless weight. I'm not a good enough rider to know how to use the rear brake. Next time I replace the caliper, I'll do the 'upgrade' to that generic brembo part that uses a more traditional pad retention system since it seems to be the weak link the the OEM system. I figure one set of brake pads will last me until the bike gets retired.
