Hopefully someone can help me!
Accidentally tipped the bike over on the left side in the driveway a while back, yeah I know...
But ever since then I get a very LOAD howl resonating through the frame on the left side. And when I say it's loud, I mean it's very loud!!
It goes away while sitting so I've ruled out the fuel pump and the fan, which I did take apart to check that it wasn't rubbing on the radiator.
I thought I'd quiz you guys first before just blindly tearing into it.
Thanks in advance...

Check that the belt tensioner/idler is rotating, and ensure proper belt alignment to make sure you're not getting any rubbing.

I think I have a stock footpeg bracket that we can swap pretty easily to verify yours didn't get some bend in it.

Thanks, Wymaen, I'll check that out tonight and Craig I may be calling you, too!!

Honestly, guys the howl sounds like it's right by the fan which is why I didn't even consider the idler but that makes perfect sence. I'll post what I find.

Does the howl increase/decrease with vehicle speed or engine revs?

Is it the neighbours pet cat that got sucked into the radiator when it tipped over ; )

Thanks for the input, guys, but I think I have a deeper problem.
After pulling the rear tire and the idler, everything looks good with no rub marks anywhere but the front pulley has a very faint squeek. The idler spun freely also.
During the test ride I ran it without the pulley cover and when I popped it into neutral while waiting for the light and noticed it was hard to roll. Once home I tried it again and it was real tough to push it into the garage in neutral.
Right now I'm not sure if I have a clutch issue or a front pulley problem...
Rogue, the sound is consistant until the bike is stopped although I couldn't get it to howl without the plastic pulley cover.
Yep, it's a puzzler!

Maybe you should lift the rear wheel and make sure the wheel bearing isn't shot!

Good luck Ralph.
I've had 2 occasions when Loretta was hard to push.
Flat rear tire
stuck idler wheel

PROBLEM SOLVED!!
Turns out that the rear rotor had .008 runout and was dragging on the caliper setting up an osillation that vibrated through the swingarm and frame creating the howlling noise I heard. Fortunately, the caliper was functioning properly so I just had to replace the rotor. The new rotor wasn't perfect though as it has .004 runout right out of the box.
SOLUTION...
I'm 99% sure this problem was created from the hot exhaust fumes blasting on these parts. I'm going to look for an aftermarket pipe this winter to eliminated this from happening in the future!!

I bought exhaust turnouts for the stock exhaust, no problem with exhaust soot or the like on the rear wheel after that either!

I got my exhaust turnouts from Albert666. They fit perfectly and look great.
