I was on a 660 mile journey this weekend when stuck in the usual annoying traffic jam that is the Ambassador Bridge to Detroit I noticed my battery light on. The volt meter was showing 11.5 and dropping. Of course the CBP agent forced me to shut it down so that we could "talk". Tt didn't start anymore and I had to walk it out of the "secure" area. It did start with a push and I rode up to Wolverine HD, the only dealership open on a Sunday, to have it quickly checked out. On the way up the max charge was 13.1 and wouldn't go any higher. Wolverine sent me up to Ray C's in Lapeer MI as they serviced Buells. The only catch was they were only open Monday. On the 50 mile ride up to Lapeer, the voltage began to inch up very slowly and eventually reached 14.3 but discharged pretty fast if the bike stopped at a light. I had the battery replaced, as it was going on it's 4th year with various total discharges to it's name. The ride home was uneventful so it may well have been a battery issue, however, as I've never experienced the VR problem with my bike, I'm wondering if this could instead be the beginning of the road towards a new VR purchase? What are the symptoms to look for? Or do you think it could've just been a battery that took a very long time to charge back up?

It may be your stator is going.

In the forum, there is a thread specifically for the stator problems experienced by the 2009 and up bikes.

You're right, I accidentally posted in the main thread. Serves me right for posting this half asleep and late for work. Can't figure out how to move it so if anyone can do it, please do.

As for the stator, don't think so as it was replaced about 4 weeks ago. I think it's just a bum battery but I couldn't find any specific post describing the symptoms leading up to the VR failure. I was just curious what they would be and if one of them was the inability to charge past a specific voltage.

Replace the relay with a quality relay. That worked for me.

Don't freak out.
You probably nailed the culprit.
Our batteries last, on the well treated-side, 3-5 years.
If you got 4, karma's on your side. buy a lotto ticket.

Hey Zac. No freaking out here, there's way more reasons to freak out these days than over a Buell stalling out. : D

I'm just curious about the VR issue. I know everyone's singing the praises for the CE605, however, I'm not going to replace mine until the current one fails. I'm just trying to plan ahead by gathering the symptoms. Who knows, their might not even be any.

Relay and Battery you should be fine, the stator "harness fix" is designed to do just that and the relay probably went from overuse it has happened to me 2 times already so I just replace the relay every year
