Just to have the information. I know the 1125R belt is a 145 tooth count. I was wondering if there was an alternative to the HD belt that is $180. I've heard of others running alternatives with no issues. I'm planning on changing my belts out at 20,000-25,000 miles a preventative maintenance. | ||

Who is this that is running an aftermarket belt? The only one I've seen someone use was on a XB, and it really wasn't an aftermarket belt as it appears to be the same stock Goodyear belt but without the Buell logo. | ||

Froggy- I've seen photos of at least one belt on an XB that wasn't Goodyear. IIRC, it was on a Buell in the UK and the belt was by a European supplier. | ||

I don't know if there's a 1125 one or not. I just ordered a Goodyear belt for my cityx. Not because of price (it's only $40 less,) but because I can get it next day after a simple easy tire change revealed cracking, bad bearings, and worn brakes. | ||

There are belts available on ebay in the UK for about £100, a big saving for us in the UK as belts from our dealers are about £200, but as you only pay $200 there is far less saving for you, probably no saving once the belt is posted to the USA, when my belt broke at 8K miles I bought the belt from the dealer as I need the bike to commute so could take no chances but I will try the cheaper belt next time to see how it lasts. | ||

I've yet to hear of anybody finding a cheaper belt anywhere that lasts anywhere near the life of genuine belts, the Xb / tuber genuine belts that are on ebay in the uk for just over £100 are actually from st Pauls HD in the states I paid I think £112 for mine but with postage and imports it still came to about £170 total (Message edited by kevmean on July 30, 2013) | ||

Yeah, like it lives until I'm on a trip last week. Hence why I've decided replace at 20K-25K. Just wanted to see if any other makes out there existed for this bike. I'm guessing not. | ||

I'll be ordering from Goodyear, I'll be damned if pay extra for harley to sell me a "Buell" monogram on the same belt from the same factory. These are basically toothed blower belts for superchargers. I bet if you sourced it that way you could find them, but there probably aren't any "cheap" ones, given the punishment they are designed to take. There have to be companies that make blower belts in custom lengths, but again, it's probably not cheap. Personally, I don't miss cleaning and lubing a chain, and I don't miss chain flung lube all over my swingarm...not one bit. Interesting thread. | ||

I agree the cost of the chain kit is more than most would pay and for the street it would be a waste of money but for racing it's worth having the ability to alter gear ratios to a specific track as well as changing geometry to suit. | ||

The flaw in the logic in preemptive replacement, as I see it, is that the belt wears Per BMC, the beltlife is indefinite - ie; designed for the life of the bike Now we all know belts can and do fail, but you must look at the cause. Many people remove the shields, then rocks and debris get in and damage the belt, failure occurs How many belts actually fail just by age and use? If you inspect your belt before this trip and it looks good, I would estimate the durability to be 95% of a new belt. Why? Because I don't believe belt failures are due to age and wear, but from external factors. Those external factors can break a new belt just as easily as an old belt. Now, I may be offbase, but again, BMC doesn't spec a lifespan on the belt, which tells me that mileage and age are minor factors in the durability (Message edited by sprintst on July 31, 2013) | ||

It's also a quick-change, and I've seen kits costing that much that aren't nearly as good or as fast as the EBR kit. It's not a good choice for a street rider, but for racing, it's actually a pretty good value. I'm sure I'll do it to my teaching bike just so I have everything standardized between the two bikes. | ||

How many belts actually fail just by age and use? Mine was de-laminating at 10 K miles granted the last 10 months of my warranty the bike sat in the garage but the belts can just fail due to manufacturing defects, all guards in place, no hammering the bike.... } | ||

Wow...just found this thread today, as I just got back from a morning ride and had the belt on my 09 1125CR delaminate(?). Just 2400 miles on the CR, very little abuse, no track days, etc. Yet my 95 S2 has 10 X the mileage and all sorts of abuse early in its history, and belt is fine...Oh well! Steve | ||

I've had belts last a season of racing and numerous track days, and I've had belts delaminate and start losing teeth after two or three track days. You just can't predict with the belt. | ||

Goodyear does make belts in the same physical sizes (i.e., 1-1/8" wide, 14mm tooth pitch) as the Buell belts, but they aren't the same as the Buell branded belts. According to a source at Goodyear, the other Goodyear belts have CF stranding in them and aren't suitable for the reverse bending across the idler wheel. The Buell "Hibrex" technology belts have aramid (Kevlar) stranding in them. But I'm still digging around on this. I'd love to find a non-HD source for the same technology belt. Al | ||

FYI: Al at american sports bike is awesome, saved me money and time on incorrect online purchase, he stopped the order, called and emailed, corrected the "my bad" ordering, next day at my house | ||
