Awesome! I'm planning on doing mine as well, but the stator/rotor issues have temporarily derailed that plan. How do you think the airbox cover will hold up to the abrasion from your knees/abdomen?

I Did my helmet and it didn't hold up to bugs and rock chips. Two coats. Maybe I needed more.

A friend of mine did 6 coats on his car. Looks great, no chips or anything. But I wasn't sure how it would hold up to jeans or jackets rubbing on the tank(air box cover).

Well I've got probably 10+ coats between the orange metal flake and gloss. I have riden it but 1 mile to work, so I don't know about bugs and what not yet. But it definitely looks better and works better the more coats you do

I used to paint for the military, and painted a few helmets & bikes before...never played with plasti-Dip before. Most non motorcycle OEM specific paints have prollems with scratches & burn through at the contact points. If that becomes a problem, you could always shoot a few coats of clear over it to protect the finish. I would do a test shoot first.

On that, you may want to have that done at a shop if you don't have a paint gun, the problem is the mil depth of rattle can paint. Each layer if paint is so thin....OEM spec clear laid down with a gun is gonna give you better protection, but I don't know how it would affect that pretty color.

It looks really sharp like that though. There's alway Stomp Grips or something.

cant really scratch this, it is a rubber coating. and its very thick with the amount of coats i have.

Plastidip has their own clear coat its either gloss or matte. If you use any other clear coat if makes the plastidip more difficult to remove. The way PD is design is that you can peel it off when its time for a different paint job, but it stays put until YOU decide its time for removal. In fact the suggested way to wash it is with a pressure washer.

Who did you order the kit from?

I was looking at the "dip my car (ride?)" website, but couldn't figure out why they were so much pricier than other retailers.

Use dipyourcar.com not ride. Dipyourride is a knock off of dipyourcar.com, DYC has the best prices I've found for plastidip and they are about an hour and a half ride north of me so I get my stuff the next day. Not to mention the people are very helpful.

I couldn't wait until Halloween I was too excited but I've been told it looks like a highlighter or pumpkin so far. The color is more highlighter than pumpkin tho.

I rode 100 miles on it yesterday to go get a new tire on the front and the bugs come off quite easily. And people get out of my way much more than with it all black.

I helped my neighbor do plasti-dip on his F150 bumper.

There are two really neat aspects of the stuff... First, when it goes wrong, you can peel it off in a big sheet. Secondly, the finish you get from the stuff (even as a rattle can job) ends up really nice and is really forgiving.

Long term wear is, as far as people are reporting so far... "better than you would expect". Years. Coupled with the fact that it is easy to remove and redo if it does get worn or damaged.

Don't try an dry it faster with a heat gun. It bubbles.

I wonder if it would be any good for finished tuber tanks.

Good question... Worth a try, easy enough to remove if it doesn't work.

when you use it, try not to get over spray on stuff unless its solid over spray, not just a mist of over spray. the mist is annoying to get off. If you are painting a sharp edge make sure that you spray the edges thick as well as the inside of whatever it is, for example the airbox cover should be painted on the bottom edges thick and inside where no one will see it so as to keep the edge from peeling up.

I think that works! Maybe peel the orange off the fly screen.....black ends for balance?

Looks great! Did you make the EBR's?

By the way, I'm straight rippin' off your idea, 'ceptin amma just do the pods and put "01" on them.

just updating...
The air cover held up great to jeans and leathers rubbing... but i did not do the edges thick enough or spray the inside of the cover so the edges started to peel up. The florescent color I used did end up fading quite a bit. which now that i did more searching is something that it is known to do. So my next time will be a color that is known not to fade. I'll post some pics of the fade.
