So I installed a Shorai battery into my cr today. The bike was stored all winter and the old lead acid battery was toast even before storage. Anyways, install was easy. I used the padding they supplied and cut them to fit. I started to crank the bike over for a little bit before it fired up, sleepiness from sitting, and the battery did a great job cranking. I was surprised since it arrives at only 60% charge, but then again it is lithium ion. Rode it for a bit, shut it down, and fired it right up again. Really happy right now and we will see how the rest of the season goes. The weight savings and warranty are also bonuses.

They don't like cold mornings, but I won't go back to traditional lead acid.

I've been very happy with mine.
I accidently left it plugged in all winter and figured I killed it since it discharged fully.
Put it on the battery tender and it took the charge.

Does it require a "special" tender?

It is recommended. If I know I'm not going to to be riding for a while then I'll disconnect. Otherwise, if I ride as much as I have in the past I won't need no stinking tender.

I use a Battery Tender brand by Deltran.
It is approved for use by Shorai, which was one of my purchasing criteria for the battery.
